The setting for Psalm 42 is, most likely, the crisis experience of good King Hezekiah, as he faced imminent death from sickness, all recorded in Isaiah 38:1-5. Hezekiah had reached rock bottom, with a sick body and a sad heart, facing death but not ready to die. Hezekiah considered God and prayed with his friend dear Isaiah as a prayer partner. God heard Hezekiah's prayer from a sincere heart and answered by adding fifteen more years to his life and giving him spiritual joy. As you read Psalm 42, consider Hezekiah's faith experience. Apply faith and prayer to your life experience and, "Hope thou in God!" (Psalm 42:5, 11)
