Pastor Pierre Rosa has been preaching through a series entitled -Jonah and the Compassion of God.- Last week we started a two-part message on the nature of God as revealed through the prayer of Jonah. We learned more about God's Sovereignty and His Holiness. Today we'll spend time on two other characteristics of His nature- His compassion and His grace.

This is program number 5 and a continuation of a sermon series entitled -Jonah and the Compassion of God- - and today Pastor Pierre Rosa teaches us about four of the attributes of God as found in the prayer of Jonah. We'll cover two of those attributes in this program - God's Sovereignty and God's holiness - and two more next week, revealing a panoramic view of the nature of God.

If you're familiar with the story of Jonah, you surely noticed the main character and big fish have a major role to play. God and his part in the events is hard to miss as well. And later, the king and the citizens of Nineveh stand out - particularly for their unexpected repentance.----But have you ever noticed the Phoenician sailors on the boat Jonah used to try to escape-----Today we focus on these men - the unlikely recipients of God's affection. God used Jonah's tragic circumstances to bring these pagan unbelievers to Himself and to save them.

Last week, Pastor Pierre Rosa showed us from the book of Jonah that our disobedience to God doesn't just affect us. It brings distress and loss to those around us, whether we know it or not.----In program three and the next message in our series entitled -Jonah and the Compassion of God- we're reminded of at least two ways our disobedience to God affects us - and both have to do with our view of self.----Our culture has a lot to say about our self-image and self-worth, but we'll see, from Pastor's message, that God has the first and final word on those subjects. And we'll see what a proper view of God can do - to establish a proper view of our self

Last week we discovered that the book Jonah, found in the Old Testament of the Bible, isn't about the big fish that swallowed Jonah - but about the Big God that controls the forces of nature, a God of compassion, a God that is all-powerful and calls people to repentance.----Today, Pastor Pierre Rosa teaches us that the price of disobeying God can be very high, not just for us, but for others as well. We're also reminded that God has a better perspective on life than what you and I have because he sees eternity - past, present and future - all at once, while we only see one moment at a time.

Pastor Pierre Rosa reminds us the book of Jonah is not just about the big fish that swallowed the prophet, but about the big God who controls nature, commands people to turn to him and invites people to repent. In fact, the whole book is about the compassion of God.
