Authority is an ugly word in our society. Through these three miracles in the book of Matthew, we see how different Jesus’ authority is from the authority displayed in our world.

Jesus reigns over creation, the spiritual world and sickness and He has authority to forgive. Our response is one of faith in Him.

Matthew shows us that Jesus is a King who has power and authority over the natural world, the supernatural world and over sin. Being under his authority gives us assurance and peace when we walk through challenges and uncertainties in this life.

The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus teaching us about true life: it is found in him, and we should expect that it will be unexpected.

Having attracted large crowds, Jesus now delivers his longest recorded sermon, known as the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus restates the law applying it to himself and showing that a true disciple builds his life on his teaching through inner transformation.

The message that John preaches is simple: repent and be baptised. And, over all who are baptised into the name of Jesus, God the Father declares "This is my son/daughter whom I love. With him/her, I am well pleased."

When we celebrate the coming of Jesus, we are not ultimately celebrating that his coming means we get something else (as is the case for Santa). Rather, we celebrate Jesus’ coming because it means we get Jesus.
