Last week, we saw Jesus announce that the Kingdom of God is at hand (v. 1:15). In other words, the sphere of the Heavenly Father’s rule is in the life of Jesus. The first expansion of this rule is seen in the call of the disciples to follow Him (1:16-20). Today, we will see yet another expression of the Kingdom of God being revealed in and through Jesus.

“What is Jesus about anyhow?” Those words were posed by a man who grew up in a Christian home but struggled to understand the mission of Jesus. Was Jesus a political activist? A great teacher? A great healer? Today, we will explore the mission of Jesus through considering His message and method.

Saying “Thank You” to the people that God has used to foster faith in our lives is more than good, it is essential. It is essential because Kingdom living is others-oriented. The very incarnation of Jesus was motivated by pleasing the Father in serving humanity. The world will tell you that caring for yourself is the most important duty you have, however, as we will see today; our joy is rooted in seeing others love Jesus. We will see this being modeled by the Apostle Paul as he writes from prison about his joy overflowing due to the continued faithfulness of the church at Philippi.
