We do not need this world to become our home.

If baptism and communion don’t save us, why did Jesus command them?

Christians can fall into two ditches.

One turns baptism and communion into rituals that somehow save us.

Scripture gives us something better.

Baptism does not save you.

These practices do not complete something Jesus left unfinished.

They point us back to what He finished.

Baptism says:

I belong to Christ.

The Table says:

We belong to Christ.

So hold your convictions firmly enough to obey Scripture and humbly enough to recognize that faithful Christians have disagreed over some of the details.

Just don’t miss Christ while arguing about the signs that point to Him.

Why do baptism and communion still matter for Christians today?

We recognize one another as His people.

These practices are not merely private spiritual accessories.

They belong to the life of Christ’s gathered Church.

The water points to new life.

The bread and cup point to Christ given for us.

And the Table points forward to a returning King and a feast still to come.

The gospel is not only something the Church says.

Christ gave us water, bread, and a cup so we could see it together.

Who decides what the mission of the Church actually is?

Churches write mission statements.

They develop strategies.

Those things can be useful.

But the mission did not begin with us.

He told us to make disciples.

That means proclaiming Christ, calling people to repent and believe, baptizing believers, teaching them to follow Jesus, gathering them into the life of the Church, and equipping mature disciples to do the same for others.

The Church does have a mission.

But we did not invent it.

Christ defined it.

Christ authorized it.

Christ empowers it.

And our calling is not to redesign the mission.

It is to faithfully participate in it.

Is the mission of the Church something we schedule—or something Christians are called to live?

Your family matters.

Mission is not just another department of church life.

We gather to be formed.

We scatter to live faithfully.

And wherever Christ places us, we bear witness to Him.

When does good Christian counsel cross the line into claiming authority God never gave?

“I think this is unwise” becomes “God doesn’t want you to do this.”

“Talk to me before you decide” slowly becomes “You shouldn’t decide without me.”

And before long, good counsel can begin functioning like a command.

When Scripture is clear, be clear.

When Scripture gives wisdom, offer wisdom.

And when Scripture leaves room, leave room.

Biblical authority is real.

But it is borrowed authority.

Christ is the Head of His Church.

And His Word gets the final word.

What should Christians do when someone we love is walking in serious sin?

Church discipline can sound harsh, controlling, or even abusive.

And sadly, it has sometimes been practiced that way.

But that is not the picture Scripture gives us.

Jesus describes a patient process of personal confrontation in Matthew 18. Galatians 6 calls believers to restore someone caught in sin with gentleness. First Corinthians 5 shows that persistent, unrepentant sin can harm the whole body. And 2 Corinthians 2 reminds us that when repentance comes, discipline should give way to forgiveness, comfort, and reaffirmed love.

Biblical correction is not about winning.

It is about restoration.

The goal is not to make someone pay.

The goal is to gain your brother or sister back.

Sometimes love comforts.

Sometimes love carries burdens.

And sometimes love has to tell the truth.

Do we actually believe what we say we believe?

Who holds a pastor accountable when he is wrong?

Different church traditions answer the accountability question differently. Some use bishops, presbyteries, district leadership, deacon boards, committees, or congregational structures.

But the deeper question is:

What pattern does Scripture actually give us?

The New Testament repeatedly shows multiple qualified elders sharing responsibility for Christ’s flock. Pastors are not isolated leaders, and other elders are not merely an advisory panel.

Meaningful plurality includes meaningful accountability.

First Timothy 5 holds two truths together:

An accusation against an elder should not be accepted carelessly.

But an elder whose sin is established is not above correction.

Scripture protects pastors from reckless accusations without making them untouchable.

The pastor is not the final authority.

The elders are not the final authority.

The congregation is not the final authority.

Christ is the Head of His Church, and every leader and every structure remains under His Word.

A correctable shepherd is not a weak shepherd.

He is a shepherd who remembers he is still a sheep under the Chief Shepherd.
