Out-and-proud UK artist Grace Petrie, who describes herself as ‘a socialist, feminist, lesbian, left-wing protest singer’, is currently in Australia for her first tour here. Just before she arrived, Katie had a long chat to her on the phone about her connection with revered English folk-activists Roy Bailey, Billy Bragg and others; her song ‘Pride’, which she wrote in response to the UK media’s coverage of the Orlando nightclub murders in 2016; the recent British election and the rise of homophobia and transphobia in England; wonderful women folk artists from northern England, including O’Hooley & Tidow, Chris While & Julie Matthews and Nancy Kerr; and more. Here is the playlist:
* Nádia – Luísa Sobral
* Pride – Grace Petrie
* Burning Times – Roy Bailey
* Black Tie – Grace Petrie
* A Young Woman’s Tale – Grace Petrie
* Gentleman Jack – O’Hooley & Tidow
