How do we keep our marriage going strong and healthy after 6 years of being married, 2 kids later 3 and under, and one on the way? Well we go into it in this episode and we share how we intentionally make it happen. Of course God is a central part of this,  we could not do it if it wasn't for Him, and we also share some practical tips that have been so helpful in navigating this season. We are far from perfect but we hope we can share with you some encouragement to help you navigate this season. Maybe you're not here yet and are curious and want to know more. Today we talked about a few different topics that kinda melted together. Starting with an eye opening verse about the uncertainties of life and how we should plant our seed early in the morning. Then we had a pretty open conversation about social media and negative effects it can sometimes have. Johnnie dove into this one from his own very recent experience and talked about how he overcame some of those issues. At times, God puts us through tests to strengthen us. When God doesn't make sense to us and the tests feel so unbearable, maybe it's enough to know that He will ALWAYS be with us (yes, even when He feels far or we feel lonely). He says "I will never leave you nor forsake you" Hebrews 13:5. And ultimately we must surrender everything to Him and allow our faith to grow.

Why? That's a question we learn how to ask at a really young age. I was a "but why?" kid through and through growing up (Priscilla here!). I never viewed that as a negative quality about myself, instead my parents did their best at cultivating my deeper desire to know and learn more. I still have a very curious nature and desire to know the answers and inner workings of things and people. Perhaps that's one of the things that made me the nurse that I am today and the mother/teacher of my kids so that I can now help THEM become life-long learners too. But what happens when we throw faith and God into the mix of this convo? The Bible tells us to walk by faith and not by sight. Simply put, it wouldn't require faith if we saw the answers to the test that we're walking through, the end result of something, etc. We would then just have data, or fact, and then make an educated and informed decision. But God calls us to not only make good, wise, and sound decisions like that in life but to first of all TRUST HIM. Trust in His plan which is made perfect and pleasing. To trust in the Lord with all your heart and not depend on your own understanding. Ok so then what do we make of the bad news, the health diagnosis, the financial turmoil, the family drama and division, the loss and grief that we go through in life? Why do bad things still happen even when there is a good God. Why aren't things making sense?

Ever been in dire need of comfort? A comforting hug, a comforting word from a friend, parent, or spouse? A comforting meal or place to lay your head to rest? This word is much deeper and layered than we may think. In this episode, we follow a devotional titled "When God Doesn't Make Sense". And in this devo, we learned that this word "comfort" actually morphed and had a different original meaning than what we recognize today, yet it still makes perfect sense and is so fitting with how God gives us comfort by granting us strength to go through difficulties, not just taking difficulties away from us altogether. Have you ever wondered why your life suddenly took a turn? It's like "whoa, what is this plot twist all about! I thought things were supposed to go this way!". Sometimes a new and unexpected change of plans or change of pace comes along, maybe you've gained more responsibility, or things completely fell through. We go through seasons in life, ups and downs, hills and valleys, there's no avoiding it. But God so graciously uses these things as opportunities to prepare us for what is to come and to help us become the people He wants us to rise up to be, like any good father would. God may even make some of these unforeseen events occur for the sole purpose of preparing you or those around you for something else in the next season, or even seasons! Embrace those hardships and surrender them to the Lord because He asks us to be strong and courageous. We can look to Him in times like these and say, "I'm here, use me, Lord".

As we start this new year, a lot of us tend to have new goals, dreams, and plans. In this episode we talk about how even in our plan making, at the end of the day, the Lord is the one who directs our steps. How aligning our desires with His is important in our walk and how He places His desires in our hearts to help guide us along the way.
