When you do something good, who are you doing it for? Yourself? Your friends? Your reputation? In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus is asking us to do a heart-check. He knows how easy it is to get caught up in loading up our schedules with volunteer work and service projects because that's what we think we're supposed to do or that's what makes us look like Christians. We can do things in God's name all we want but if its not flowing through Christ-serving hearts or if we're doing things to just avoid going to hell, then we're just using God's name as a get out of jail free card.

Jesus is giving us a warning here. If we have breath in our lungs we have the ability to humble ourselves and ask God to change our hearts to serve Him and nothing else.

We are all going to stand before God. Every single one of us, whether we believe in Him or not. He's going to ask you what you lived your life for. What will you say?

This week, Pastor Paul unpacks Matthew 7:15-20. Jesus is warning us against false prophets. Not the obvious kind , like the kind of person that yells on street corners. He's warning us about the subtle kind that slowly pulls us away from our heavenly Father. There have always been a lot of different ways that Satan can use people to tempt us away from the Lord. But these days we are constantly inundated with so many voices and opinions through the pervasive presence of technology. The world is especially loud.

Watch our for false prophets, and know what one looks like by spending time in God's word and in prayer with Him. God has given us clear instructions on how to live, feel, think and act in the Bible. We don't need to get tripped up in the wilderness and our heads don't need to turn towards every loud voice in our ears. Spending quiet time with God on a walk, while you're driving or reading scriptures, can reorient our hearts to listen to the only One you need to hear.

In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus is encouraging us to resist the temptation to take the easy way. The one that everyone else is taking. It is especially easy to get swept into the cacophony of cultural opinions that are coming at us each day. But when we listen to our Lord, we find peace and a solid direction in which to orient ourselves. Listen in this week and find a solid place for your weary heart to rest.

This week, we hear from Kevin deJonge as he unpacks what Jesus is teaching us in Matthew 7:7-11. Jesus points out that while we can never measure up to God's justified standard of perfection, He does provide a solution - Jesus Himself. Jesus is calling us to persist in our pursuit if Him, to keep our eyes focused on Him. Every time we knock, He will answer because He loves us and cares for us. He knows we need help, every hour of our days we need His help, and He is telling us we will always find it in Him.

Are you more concerned with another persons sin rather than your own? Jesus challenges us to take stock of ourselves before pointing the finger at other people. He's not saying we shouldn't pay attention to injustice or do away with be intellectually lazy and just shut down anything that sounds judgmental or critical. But He is stressing the importance of keeping ourselves from becoming hypocrites and examining our own 'planks' before turning our judgmental eyes on someone else.

This week, we're looking at Romans 12:1-8. It's so easy to come to church every week to fill up our spiritual cups. But Jesus calls us to be a living sacrifice, to pour ourselves out as we serve others. If that sounds challenging to you (and you're definitely not alone), take your concerns to God, who knows you and loves you. Be honest about where you're spending your energy and time in this life and pray about how you can use the resources you have to pour into the lives of others around you.
