With the basis of our prayer being that we are calling on our heavenly Father, we begin to enter into His presence with acknowledging His holiness. "Hallowed be Your Name". The intimacy we share with the Lord is within the context of His perfect Holiness. Jesus teaches us to orient our hearts towards the Lord as children of a Holy and completely set apart God. Without clear instruction on how to do this, our self-centered hearts will only focus on our own needs and concerns. I don't know about you, but does anyone else start their prayer with 'Dear Lord..' and then launch into a vent session about all the things that are on your mind and everything you need?
It's not that He doesn't want to hear it, rather its about adopting a new heart posture that keeps us second and God first. It's about asking God, how can we hallow you and not ourselves? How can we pray in a way that pleases you and changes us?
This weeks sermon is one you'll want to listen to on repeat, with very relatable examples of what it looks like when our hearts worship ourselves and not the Lord. Tune in this week as we go through the second line of the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6: 9-13.
