  • God's Intentions for Desire and Sex
Some of you know that in the Greek Language there are different words for love, (4 to be exact storge, phileo, agape, and eros ).  Just like we can “love our new car” and love our spouse,” each word contains a different notion of love.

Agape is the most well-known word for love in the New Testament and it signifies the love that God has for his people, the love that Christ displayed on the cross.  To Agape someone means that you “care for their well-being” and what to produce within someone else the highest level of good.

The Greek word for sexual love is Eros and if you hear the root for the word “erotic” there, then you are hearing correctly.  To eros someone is to desire them sexually and deals with the physical and hormonal aspects of love.

In marriage, these two powerful forms of love - agape and eros - are combined into a single relationship.  So that through our desire and sex we not only have enjoyment and pleasure, but we do so in a way that cares or the well-being of our spouse.

Again, this is God’s intentions in giving us desire and sex, and I stand in awe of two things this morning.  First, how much go loves as and cares for us by giving us good things.  Second, how much we turn the good things of God into hurtful, chaotic experiences that twist his intentions for our lives.

  • God's Intentions in Giving us Marriage

In this teaching I try to answer this question: What purpose did God have for giving us marriage? While there have been some interesting answers to this question, perhaps the simple one is the best.  God desires us to participate in a covenant                 relationship that is exclusive and holy, and in this life-giving relationship we can as a family serve the world and people around us.

  • Break-Up

We trade in the ability to trust our God for the ability to choose for ourselves, and this is the very first of many self-serving mistakes we will make.

  • Harmony
There is a place where Creation is in harmony with itself and its Creator.  Genesis 2 tells the story of the Garden of Eden, and in reading it we realize that it is far from our reality.  However, by visiting the Garden, we see God's intention and reflect on his purposes for relationships.

  • Easter Sunday Message
Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

  • Alive through Community
This sermon highlights the work of our Small Groups Ministry in the recent study, "40 Day of Community."  In this study we learned that we are better together in community than we would ever be alone.  Four members share their experience in Small Groups so this semron is a little longer than usual.

  • Do Not Quench The Spirit

In understanding these two passages of Scripture we can draw some conclusions regarding our relationship with the Spirit:

    1.  We can cause the Holy Spirit to feel sorrow or be grieved:

We let the Spirit in the door of our home, but we don’t give the Spirit access to our whole lives and so we continue to live the way we want and wonder why we still have the hurts, hang-ups, and habits we had years and decades ago.

    2.  We can quench or put out the Spirit in our lives:

We start off well, and then over time there is no feeding the fire of the spirit and so we come to a place where the impurities are not gone and once was a great fire is nothing but some coals that used to be a fire.
