Grand Sumo Breakdown

Ryan realizes his life long dream as he finally gets to talk about his banzuke predictions for a half hour straight as Jake gets caught in his wake. We go over every rank on the banzuke and give our reasons for why we think rikishi will land where they do. Complaints can be addressed to 805-613-SUMO (7866).

Another basho gone, another zensho-yusho for the boss. That makes an astounding 15 in his career! Regardless, there was plenty else to talk about this basho too, and we hope you'll join us for another (fairly long) recap episode. We have a pretty stellar punishment for our prediction series loser and one more classic clip from the Sumo Movie Vault at 1:06:00. Drop us a line if you like at 805-613-SUMO (7866).

*Spoilers Through Day 6*

Hakuho and Ichinojo are tied for the lead. We discuss Takakeisho and Tamawashi's run for Ozeki along with Tochinoshin's battle to hold on. We have another excerpt from the Sumo Vault with "A Few Good Mono-ii's" at 43:33 followed by Ryan dishing out some fun facts? You can find us on social media or give us a call at 805-613-SUMO (7866).

*Warning: dangerously stupid content ahead*

For those of you sick of GSB taking themselves too seriously, check out our live coverage of Juryo on day 1 of the Haru basho. Mak couldn't make it all the way to "Osaka" with us, so we brought along Jake's wife/returning GSB guest star, Katie! Join us for a thoroughly irreverent and silly hangout and please direct all complaints to 805-613-SUMO (7866).

Another sumo drought is finally ending, and we can't help but ramble on about it for hours. Thanks again to everyone who submitted sumo related movie titles, we got so many that we even included a clip from a Sumo Vault Classic at 1:21:03. Send us any comments or corrections on Twitter or Facebook or leave us a message at 805-613-SUMO (7866)

In light of his recent passing in October 2018, we are covering the career and life of the 54th yokozuna: Wajima Hiroshi. Join us for a short historical bonus episode where we discuss his rise and fall through the ranks of sumo through his death last year at age 70 (and all his wacky hi-jinx in between). As we mention in the episode, there is a fun thread on the Sumo Forums website with an insane amount of pictures of Wajima. We've linked it on our BLOG with some of the ones we mention in the episode. As always, give us a call at 805-613-SUMO (7816) or find us on Twitter/Facebook!

The Midwest is cold AF this week, so we keep warm by cozying up by the fire and blasting each other point blank with nerf guns. Also chat about sumo I guess. Good times. Check out our medical sponsor at 50:58 and leave us a message at 805-613-SUMO (7816).

If there is a better way to ring in the new year than watching mostly naked men wrestle, we sure don't know it! Will the Yokozuna take it? Will Takakeisho reach Ozeki? Will Goeido keep disappointing?! The Hatsu Basho is upon us, and it's looking to be a good one! We take a sponsor break at 55:38 and can be reached on social media or dropping a line at 805-613-SUMO (7866)!

We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, but now that December is almost over, it's time to get to the very serious business of giving out fake awards for sumo wrestling. Join us for an hour or so of reviewing 2018 before the January basho kicks off in 2 weeks. Find us on social media or leave us a message with any questions at 805-613-SUMO (7866).

As with a previous episode, we ran into a couple audio hiccups in this one, but they are rare after the first couple minutes. We apologize and our New Year's resolution will be to recommit ourselves to flogging those responsible.
