GraphicAudio - Duane's Pick

In the latest edition of Duane’s Pick of the Week, GraphicAudio’s Director of Production spotlights our new series from Brandon Sanderson, Alcatraz 1: Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians.

This story follows 13-year-old Alcatraz Smedry, an orphan who’s been through numerous foster homes. On his 13th birthday, Alcatraz receives his inheritance - a bag of sand. This isn’t just any bag of sand, however, as it’s quickly stolen by a cult of evil Librarians. These Librarians are planning to take over the world by spreading misinformation, and the sand turns out to be the key to doing so!

While this kid-friendly series is not an epic fantasy like Mistborn, there’s still something for listeners of all ages to enjoy. Duane points out that Sanderson is a master storyteller, creating a work that will appeal to adults as well. Outstanding performances from Alejandro Ruiz and Chris Genebach round out a production that’s a fun adventure for the young - and the young at heart!

Stephen Blackmoore's dark urban fantasy series follows necromancer Eric Carter through a world of vengeful gods and goddesses, mysterious murders, and restless ghosts.

Necromancer Eric Carter's problems keep getting bigger. Bad enough he's the unwilling husband to the patron saint of death, Santa Muerte, but now her ex, the Aztec King of the dead, Mictlantecuhtli, has come back -- and it turns out that Carter and he are swapping places. As Mictlantecuhtli breaks loose of his prison of jade, Carter is slowly turning to stone.

To make matters worse, both gods are trying to get Carter to assassinate the other. But only one of them can be telling him the truth and he can't trust either one. Carter's solution? Kill them both.

If he wants to get out of this situation with his soul intact, he'll have to go to Mictlan, the Aztec land of the dead, and take down a couple of death gods while facing down the worst trials the place has to offer him: his own sins.

Vampires don't exist, do they? That is a question Private Detective Tony Mandolin finds himself pondering as the evidence piles up in a case involving a string of dead redheads and the usual dose of weirdness San Francisco has to offer.

To complicate things, Mandolin has to deal with the perception that he has become the latest golden boy of the fog city's crime boss. Then there's his cross-dressing friend Frankie...Just another day in San Francisco.

Dive into an exhilarating new noir fantasy series where nothing is as it seems.

Marvel fans should be sure to check out Duane’s Pick of the Week, Spider-Man: Forever Young! Created from Marvel’s prose novel by veteran comic writer Stefan Petrucha, this one is based on classic story arc from late 60’s entitled the "Stone Tablet Saga."

In Forever Young, we see Spidey’s bad luck reach all-time highs, as he is caught up in a battle royal between the Kingpin and the Maggia crime outfit, who are vying for possession of a mysterious tablet. Things get even worse for his alter ego, Peter Parker, who finds himself at odds with his close friends, including the love of his life, Gwen Stacy.

As a huge Spider-Man fan, who is quite familiar with the ‘60s storyline, Duane was thrilled to hear this one in the GraphicAudio format. He says, "Director Scott McCormick and Sound Designer Justin Wortz do their magic once again to deliver a very entertaining production...By all means, you need to cop a copy of Spider-Man: Forever Young!"

Bestselling authors William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone have thrilled readers with the epic struggles and hard-fought triumphs of the pioneering Jensen family. Now this great American saga continues—with the next generation of Jensens...
