Jesus wants his disciples to always pray and not give up. Yet its only when we can see God for who he is - just, good, powerful and gracious - that we will be able to overcome our doubts and cynicism to pray with persistent faith.

The older son's story in Jesus' parable challenges us to see that just because we go to church and tick the boxes doesn't necessarily mean that we are on good terms with God.
