  • Hemp in Ohio w/ Julie Doran, organic Hemp farmer/entrepreneur/consultant
Carolyn Harding with Julie Doran, hemp farmer and advocate for cannabis in Ohio. Julie was raised on a small farm in a big family. She’s passionate about cannabis, and her focus is to free this plant, and to keep cannabis a clean medicinal option for anyone who wishes to use it.
She manufactures an organic fertilizer formulated for cannabis production. She also farms 5 acres of hemp and grows the cbd that she uses in her cbd line, Ohio Friends and Family CBD Products.
She enjoys educating people on the benefits of cannabis, how to cultivate it, and what it’s uses and possibilities are.
You can find her at the statehouse educating legislators on the benefits and uses of cannabis, or hosting summits to educate farmers on how to cultivate a new crop. She loves connecting the dots for businesses, growers, patients, and legislators. She has submerged herself in the industry because of the way
the cannabis plant can change a life.
When Julie isn’t focused on the world of cannabis, she can be found outside in nature, gardening, showing alpacas, and hanging out with friends and family.

Carolyn Harding with Dr. Lauren Beene, a general pediatrician practicing in the Cleveland area. She is co-founder and Executive Director of Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights and co-leader of the non-partisan grassroots coalition Protect Choice Ohio and the Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights alliance.
Dr. Beene is concerned that abortion restrictions will cause a medical crisis in Ohio, and will disproportionally affect the most vulnerable populations, including her teenage patients and people of color. Dr. Beene with Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights, Protect Choice Ohio & Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights are working diligently toward protecting reproductive freedom via the citizen-led ballot initiated constitutional amendment on the November 2023 ballot.

  • Ohio Issue 1 w/ David DeWitt, Editor-in-chief, Ohio Capital Journal
Carolyn Harding with David DeWitt, editor-in-chief of the Ohio Capital Journal about Ohio Issue 1 - the Single Issue on the August 8, special election Ohio ballot.
Ohio Capital Journal Editor-in-Chief and Columnist David DeWitt has been covering government, politics, and policy in Ohio since 2007, including education, health care, crime and courts, poverty, state and local government, business, labor, energy, environment, and social issues. He has worked for the National Journal, The New York Observer, The Athens NEWS, and Plunderbund.com. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and is a board member of the E.W. Scripps Society of Alumni and Friends.
The Ohio Capital Journal covers the Ohio Statehouse, Issues, Politicians, Wins/Losses and Votes since I started reading your daily newsletter. And in my opinion, your articles, editorials and opinion pieces have been pointedly on the side of the People of Ohio.
As a professional journalist and news organization, you must have credible sources and facts to back up your assertions, statements, opinions in your articles.
Your July 6 commentary entitled, “The historical malfeasance of equating the Ohio Constitution with the U.S. Constitution to attack it - Issue 1 assault on majority rule is a grotesque overthrow of ideals behind America’s constitutional republic”, your June 29 commentary, “Ohio government is already captured by radical special interests. State Issue 1 would make it worse” , and your June 8 commentary “Change to 88 counties under State Issue 1 would effectively kill Ohio grassroots amendment proposals”- leads one to surmise you have strong opinions in opposition to Issue 1.
So let’s look at some of these issues and breakdown for our listeners & viewers- Ohio Issue #1- on the statewide ballot now through August 8, 2023.

  • The Risks to the Greater Columbus Water Supply from Oil & Gas Production
Carolyn Harding with Bob Krasen, Sandy Bolzenius and Will Perkins, volunteer organizers with the Columbus Community Rights Coalition and Leads on the recently released White Paper Study, The Risks to the Greater Columbus Water Supply from Oil and Gas Production.
In retirement, Bob Krasen became an activist for SPAN Ohio in 2006. The organization wants "Health Care for All Ohioans" and/or Enhanced and Improved Medicare for All. He joined the Columbus Community Rights Coalition in 2014 because he figured there was no point in trying to get health care for all, if we were going to be poisoned by our drinking water. We need both clean water and health care for all.
Sandy Bolzenius is a local community rights activist, the facilitator for Move to Amend (Central Ohio), an Army veteran, and a former international teacher who has lived in Europe, Africa, and Asia. she holds a doctorate in History from the Ohio State University, and is the author of Glory in Their Spirit: How Four Black Women Took on the Army during World War II (University of Illinois Press, 2018). Sandy believes that a just, fully inclusive and sustainable world for all is not only possible, but within our grasp--so long as People (not Big Money) are deciding our public policies.
Will Perkins was born and raised in Columbus. He was a member of the first graduating class of Columbus Northland High School and went on to graduate from both Columbus Technical Institute and Ohio Dominican College. He spent his career in printing and graphic arts, ranging from printing press operator to plant manager, and finished his printing career as manager of the in-house printing and mailing operation at Ross Laboratories, a division of Abbott Laboratories. He is realizing a life goal by spending his retirement years involved in community activism with a focus on endeavoring to improve our planet for future generations.
In February of 2021 the Columbus Community Rights Coalition (CCRC) reached out to the Columbus Water Department asking for a copy of the Columbus Source Water Protection Plan to review and ascertain whether Columbus was testing for oil & gas production and waste contaminants in the Columbus Metro water supply, serving over 1,200,000 people and 20+ communities.
The CCRC White Paper team received only 3 out of the 9 sections of the Columbus Source Water Protection Plan. Undaunted you took on the material provided, researched publications, peer reviewed scientific studies, conferred with water, soil and map scientists, to write, The Risks to the Greater Columbus Water Supply from Oil and Gas Production - White Paper.

  • Portsmouth Nuclear Site w/ Dr. Michael Ketterer, PhD
Carolyn Harding with Michael Ketterer, PhD, an analytical chemist and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Northern Arizona University. We’ll talk about the Portsmouth Ohio Nuclear Site, otherwise known as the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, south of Piketon, Ohio, and HOT in Energy news NOW.
Michael E. Ketterer, PhD, is an analytical chemist and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Northern Arizona University. Michael holds a BS in Chemistry from University of Notre Dame and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Colorado. Michael has worked in private industry, as a chemist for USEPA’s Office of Enforcement, and has taught at four different Universities.
Dr. Ketterer specializes in understanding the sources, transport and environmental fates of long lived radioactive contaminants, such as uranium and plutonium, near former and active nuclear sites. Michael has performed mass spectrometric studies of uranium isotopes in off-site samples near the Portsmouth Nuclear Site (PORTS) which show conclusively, using modern nuclear forensics, that the contamination originated from PORTS. The US Department of Energy has contradicted but has not disproved Dr. Ketterer’s results.
Michael is currently providing technical assistance to communities throughout the US affected by legacy nuclear contamination.

  • Clean Air & Water for Alexandria and St. Albans Township w/ Flower Farmers Tracey and Sean Barnes
Carolyn Harding with Tracey and Sean Barnes, flower farmers facing, not one but two imminent asphalt plants on either side of Alexandria, and next to their farm in St Albans Township.
Tracey Barnes is a mother and flower farmer with a deep love for the natural world. Along with her husband and three children, she lives and works full time on their flower farm in Alexandria, Ohio. Before she began farming in 2016, Tracey worked connecting people with plants, as a Volunteer Coordinator and Horticulturist in public gardens. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from The Ohio State University. Tracey's love of travel has taken her around the country and abroad, but the place she loves the best is her home, in Alexandria.
Sean Barnes has always loved being in nature. His interest in plants drew him to Horticulture, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from The Ohio State University. He has worked mainly in public gardens, but got his start working in greenhouses and nursery production. In addition to flower farming with his wife since 2016, he is also a certified Arborist, with an endless passion for trees and forestry. When Sean is not farming, he is usually spending time with his kids, or finding time to travel to the places where he is most at peace, in the woods.
