Many of these examples exercised that authority with humbleness and an eye toward God; sadly, some did not. Jesus provided an example of how to exercise power. Jesus’ values are not about power and position. He came as a servant and was obedient, even unto death. His ministry was about loving and serving. We must make sure our motives are to glorify God. God trusts us with authority when we align ourselves with His kingdom and values. If our use of the authority that God gives is only to glorify ourselves, we are misusing it. God blesses us when we honor authority. Likewise, He blesses those who lead with honor. Aligning with Kingdom values means aligning with others who also are pursuing the kingdom of God. We must seek to develop relationships that propel us to good works.

As stewards, we act as the manager of resources that belong to someone else. We do not own it. That is the key to understanding our lives.
