The church at Ephesus did many things right, but the bible said that “I have one thing against you, you have left your first love.” They had full heads, busy hands, but empty hearts. Satan steals that hot ember of devotion. If he can cause us to become complacent and not excited about the kingdom of God, he has accomplished his goal. God’s intention is that we stay on fire for Him. Some started with a dream and a calling. But over time, that fire died down because the devil stole it. The enemy loves to take away from us the gifts that God has given us. The devil will attack our marriages and our families. The devil wants to steal our faith. Our text from 1 Samuel is a story of faith about when something precious is stolen. The enemy stole all that David’s men held dear while they are on the battlefield serving God. They are heartbroken and angered by the thought that their wives and children were gone. Their first action was to consider stoning David. The bible says that David encouraged himself in the Lord. He did not look internally, or to self-help books, but he looked to the Lord. No matter how low it is, or how bad it is, God able to encourage. David went first to God. God told David to go after the enemy. He did and God provided a great victory. They recovered it all.
