Could anything be more improbable than that a religion following a man born of an unwed mother among a widely despised people in an out-of-the-way part of the world – a man then crucified by the ruling authorities on a charge of treason – should become the official religion of the Roman world, the formative influence of Western civilization, and a significant influence in other parts of the world? This is the story of the History of the Christian Church!
In Session 1 - The Gospel, The Apostles, and Now What?" 1) You will learn how a fire in Rome in AD 64 led to early persecution of Christians; 2) How the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 affected perceptions of Christianity in the Roman Empire; 3) Who
the apologists were and how they defended Christian beliefs; and 4) Which human failures and factors God used to bring glory to himself.
In Session 2 "Balancing The Past With The Present" you will learn: 1) Who the Gnostics were, and what they believed; 2) How the New Testament developed; 3) How and why certain bishops (or overseers) became powerful figures in the early church.
