In Session 8 of Church History we discuss Martin Luther and the Diet of Worms and how the term Protestant came to be. We further discuss how John Calvin went from being a lawyer to a primary theologian of the Protestant Reformation. We also looked at the Anabaptists and how the Council of Trent attempted to renew the Roman Catholic Church.

In Session 4 we discuss how the first four church councils wrestled with what Scripture teaches about the humanity and deity of Jesus. We also look at Augustine and how he stewarded the church through the fall of Rome and how Bishops such as John Chyrsotom, Leo, and the Cappadocians served the church even when earthly power had become the focus.

Could anything be more improbable than that a religion following a man born of an unwed mother among a widely despised people in an out-of-the-way part of the world – a man then crucified by the ruling authorities on a charge of treason – should become the official religion of the Roman world, the formative influence of Western civilization, and a significant influence in other parts of the world?  This is the story of the History of the Christian Church!

In Session 2 "Balancing The Past With The Present" you will learn: 1) Who the Gnostics were, and what they believed; 2) How the New Testament developed; 3) How and why certain bishops (or overseers) became powerful figures in the early church.

Mithras was born of a virgin on Dec 25 in a cave and his birth attended by virgins. Zoroaster was born of a virgin and tempted in the wilderness. Horus was baptized, cast out demons, walked on water and was crucified. Was Jesus copied from these stories? We'll examine these and many more in this teaching!

In Part I we focused on establishing the facts that Jesus, as a historical person, lived on this earth.  Part II of this teaching focuses on examining the claims of Mithras, Buddha, Krishna, Horus, Osiris, Attis, Dionysus, Tammuz, and Marduk to see if Jesus was a copycat or parallel of the claims regarding these figures.  

Is there any empirical evidence "outside of the Bible" that Jesus existed as a historical person?  Is Jesus a myth deriving from ancient accounts of Mithras, Horus, Osiris, or Attis?  This teaching will examine the primary sources to decisively demonstrate whether Jesus was a Man, a Myth, or the Messiah!!
