Cara and her family are about to be swept up in the cruel modern world of Internet shaming and viral siege. Caras private life is out there, permanently. Her fathers campaign is looking to blame someone, to stanch the wound, to "get ahead of the story". Cara keeps her chin up in the face of this humiliation and its harmful effect on her fathers fortunes, and enlists her sisters and brothers help in tracking down the source of these scurrilous and destructive leaks.
Paul Micou is the author of eight novels, among them The Music Programme, The Death of David Debrizzi, The Leper's Bell, and a previous best-selling Kindle Single, "How to Get Into Harvard".
    Members Reviews:
    Well Done
This bargain novella turned out to be worth far more than the money. I'd read Paul Micou's earlier selection How To Get Into Harvard and wasn't overly impressed. This time his story about the children of a surprise; sleazy, hypocritical senate aspirant is a real winner. It's also a commentary on the absence of privacy in the country today. Given the cost; this is a book that should be purchased by anyone with an audible membership.

Length: 7 hrs and 59 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-02-14

    Publisher's Summary:
Janette Anderson is the female Mario Puzo. Sons of the Father is the modern-day Godfather from a woman's point of view. Violent, sexy, and she lived it.
Director and producer Jerry London Philip Vega is a man to die for. Janette Anderson was born in England, but now resides in Los Angeles as a US citizen. Having earned a degree in communications, she traveled round the world, and then began a career as a celebrity journalist interviewing over 500 stars in the process. Graduating from the WGA as a signatory agent, Janette opened her own company arranging parties and events for the stars. After completing the Kane Branson series of books, Ms. Anderson has moved on with other stories. Sons of the Father is the first of several Mafia/adventure books to follow.
    Members Reviews:
    It's a Home Run!
SONS OF THE FATHER is an exciting story about a beautiful young woman who suddenly finds herself being drawn into a dangerous world that she never expected to enter. The narration is expertly done, bringing the story to life and making the characters seem real.
"From a woman's point of view"
I'd like to be more positive in my review but this is truly a pale comparison to The Godfather. We just don't think the same way men do. The narration was equally pale in comparison. If you're looking for a "chick flick" version, you'll probably like it.
    Mills and Boon Type "Thriller".
What would have made Sons of the Father better?
Changing the cringing dialogue for a start; it is like the script of a dreadful 'B' movie. I want realism in a book particularly one based on the Mafia.
What will your next listen be?
I don't know yet. Probably a non fiction account of crime or military experience.
What didnt you like about Mike Denniss performance?
Unfortunately, his English accent is one of the worst I have ever heard. It varies throughout and sometime sounds possibly Scottish; very weird anyway. It would be hard to make anyone sound good with the melodramatic script though.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sons of the Father?
I would change the narrator for a start and the whole book needs editing to give it more of an edge instead of resembling a soppy soap.
    Any additional comments?
I certainly will NOT be buying anything written by this author again.

    Publisher's Summary:
Kevin Grierson has a shadow with a mind of its own. It likes thrills, it likes power, it likes the rush of drugs and danger. From the suburbs of Boston to the streets of New York, from the false glamour of advertising to the dark glamour of hustling and drug-dealing. Grierson's shadow keeps him walking the edge of destruction and madness. Then a simple robbery goes horribly wrong. With the help of a flawed saint named Leo Dunn, Grierson struggles to banish his shadow, and succeeds. Temporarily. Years later, sober and settled, at peace with his world, Kevin Grierson meets his shadow again. And this time it won't go away. This new edition of the Lambda Literary Award-winning novel includes a brand-new Grierson story.
    Members Reviews:
    Highly recommended
One of the other reviewers called described Minions of the Moon as "frightening and beautiful" -- I completely agree. I read this back when it first came out, but I think I only really appreciated it fully on this second reading.
This is not a straightforward narrative; it meanders back and forth through the protagonist's life, allowing us to understand his passage through times of addiction and degradation into an acceptance of his past and of the Shadow that is a part of his existence. Itâs hard to say this is an enjoyable book -- it is too intense for that -- but once I had started it I found it difficult to put it down. I highly recommend it.
    A Great Haunting Novel
After I finished this book, I realized just how inventive and unique it really was. The hero Kevin is haunted by his 'shadow' who literally embodies all the bad sides of his character and past. Through solidly constructed chapters (especially a few right in the middle of this book, which are downright brilliant), Kevin both looks back at his past and confronts his shadow again after years.
At points the novel has very obviously been stitched together from many separate short works (as author admits in the preface), but once you get into the storyline and the reality as weaved together by the author, you'll let yourself go on a spook tour of Kevin's psyche.
    Inventive, clever, unique, vivid, pervasive.
Someone recently said to me, 'I like books in which as a reader I'm not 100% sure of what's going on.' Me too.
    Dark and believable fantasy
If much fantasy consists of real toads in imaginary gardens, then Minions of the Moon is precisely the other way around. In most respects it is a book about a character struggling to overcome his own dark side. It is the world as we know it, only in this world a person's dark side can exist as a separate entity.
The tip o' the hat to Mr. Hyde in the Shadow is well done. The novel is gritty enough to have a nice hard-boiled feel without being unbearably grotty.
Why not five stars? Too disjointed. It does not quite hold together well enough as a novel to make it really memorable.
Good read all the same. Not a waste of time.
    From a ground-breaker to a classic
When Minions of the Moon came out in the late 90s there had been nothing like it. Since then there have been any number of books that WISH they could be this brilliant, and create a character as interesting, nay, riveting, as Kevin Grierson. It breaks ground in speculative fiction, in stringing together stories to make a mosaic novel, and just in story-telling.

    Publisher's Summary:
A funny and tender story about family, friendship, grief, love and...Richard Gere.
So Bartholomew turns to Richard Gere, the man his mum adored from afar, in the hope he can offer some answers. In Bartholomew's letters to Richard Gere he explores philosophy and friendship, alien abduction and the mystery of women. The letters also reveal his heart-breaking need of a family, but when Bartholomew does manage to assemble a motley family of sorts, he seems to have taken on more than he bargained for...
    Members Reviews:
    Pensive, honest, and appropriately quirky
At thirty-nine, Bartholomew Neil still isn't ready to leave his mother's nest, but when he loses her to cancer, he's left with no other choice. His once-stable, once-routine worldâof just him, his mother, and Godâcrumbles to pieces when one of his biggest role models, Father McNamee, consequently denounces himself from the Catholic church, and in turn, becomes more than just a religious father figure to Bartholomew, by becoming a human being.
Convinced that his other beloved role model, Richard Gere, is watching over him now that God no longer is, Bartholomew begins a one-way correspondence; these letters are what make up the entire novel. This fantasy relationship he creates is the only thing that still connects him to his deceased mother, considering she was Richard Gere's biggest fan, and the sole belief that he is guiding Bartholomew as if they were old friends, leads to unexpected discoveries and profound self-inquiry.
The unique narrator is what stood out to me, first and foremost. It is not a shock that Quick would write a protagonist who isn't quite normalâone who clearly suffers from a mental disorder, but internally, is the same as any and all of us: deeply, imperfectly human. Bartholomew isn't a grand hero, no, but he glows with sincerity and is a compassionate, warm character; his brilliantly observant and self-recognizing tone will capture the hearts of readers just as that of The Silver Linings Playbook did.
Matthew Quick is skilled not only at providing perspective, but also at conveying the necessity of pretendingânot out of delusion, but out of self-preservationâand the sheer magic of believingâwhether through faith or through faithlessness. While the book is stylistically simple, it will make you think hard and think long; Bartholomew's introspection on religion, political correctness, and the nature of existence, will make your mind turn. There are moments where you'll disbelievingly relate, and resultantly be touchedâfateâand the way the story proceeds rather messily, but falls into place, piece by pieceâsynchronicityâwill provide immense comfort; this is a story for the soul.

    Loved it
    Brilliant story totally believable, really enjoyed it well worth it x x x x x x x x x c
    Yawn....
Started well - very well, I was happily listening for several hours and really enjoying it, then it happened.... the style of writing completely changed! It was as though someone else had started writing certain chapters. It suddenly became very rushed, as though it had been badly edited. Chapters that had no relevance to the story really were left in and elements of the story that should have been eleborated upon were rushed through.
The character Harriet was diplorable. Very unlikeable! She started off a nice person, but her dialog was just terrible and she became horrible. Oliver, her husband is a non-descript, boring yawn, Zoe (the other mother) just needed a slap, talk about wet! The two girls that are swapped dont really get going, then just as they do, the book ends!
The story could have been so much better! The characters more likeable and the planning of a major event in the story better set out.... DON'T bother - use your credit on something better written!
