    Title: Acts of Faith
Subtitle: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation
    Author: Eboo Patel
    Narrator: Vikas Adam
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 21 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-27-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 33 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Acts of Faith is a remarkable account of growing up Muslim in America and coming to believe in religious pluralism, from one of the most prominent faith leaders in the United States. Eboo Patel's story is a hopeful and moving testament to the power and passion of young people - and of the world-changing potential of an interfaith youth movement. Includes a new Afterword.
    Editorial Reviews:
In Acts of Faith Eboo Patel, an American Muslim from India, uses his own journey from a teenager hanging out with the wrong crowd to founder and president of the Interfaith Youth Core to illustrate the ways in which young peoples relationship to faith and the world are shaped.
Vikras Adams recounts these poignant anecdotes from Patels life; the teachers and friends, travels and meetings with important religious leaders like the Dalai Lama that shaped him with a calm passion that engages and informs.
This audiobook will provide great fodder for thought to anyone interested in what sways the youth to either side of the faith line; that of totalitarianism and hatred or of pluralism and collaboration.
    Members Reviews:
    Good introduction for interfaith novices.
Engaging story; Patel weaves his own with that of the Interfaith Youth Corp elegantly. The narrative, however, can be a little too spread out at times. Good read overall.
Waited three years for this audiobook
Would you listen to Acts of Faith again? Why?
Yes. I felt like it was a close friend telling me his childhood story. In this very busy world, most of us dont have time to listen to each others heart felt stories or even tell our own. Maya Angelou said, There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. Im glad Im Patel was able to tell his story and I was a good listening ear.
What does Vikas Adam bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Ive seen lots of interview of Mr. Patel and remember his voice. However 30 minutes into the audiobook, I forgot it was Mr. Adam reading it. His voice is captivating and the pronunciation is so precise of the Hindi/Arabic/Urdu words, that I almost felt a longing for my family. One of the best audio voices Ive heard in a very long time. (Although I cant say the same for the voices of Sarah & Shehnaz).
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Mr. Patels trip to India and learning to appreciate his family, the customs, and even the chaos.
    Any additional comments?
I patiently waited three years to hear this story. I dont regret the wait. This was one book I wanted to hear the storytellers voice and not my own, as I had a wonderful interfaith childhood.

    yes
    A sad story
This story did make me cry. This poor girl has some much strength and the most amazing parents you could imagine. I dont think I would have liked the Katie pre accident- which is more a reflection of me. The new Katie was/is inspiring and deserves happiness.
    Raw, inspiring & beautiful
Was enraptured during the recount of the attack, emotional throughout Katie's healing and treatments, and loved the journey to self love and independence
    Will definitely "reread" !
    Inspiring story of true courage.
I loved this book. Katie Piper is an inspiration, a truly amazing, strong and beautiful person. Her story moved me so much, told with such raw honesty and emotion. It made me cry at times and feel angry about what had happened to her but also laugh, hope and dare to dream. She was my hero before but even moreso now as she shared her journey, no holes barred. The narration was excellent. I can't say enough about this book.

    Publisher: Hachette Audio UK
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
In April 2011, four soldiers - each a hero of recent conflicts who suffered devastating injuries in the line of duty - set out on a challenge that even an able-bodied athlete would balk at: a 200-mile trek, unsupported, to the North Pole. It was the culmination of a journey that began long before, when two friends decided to mount an expedition that would demonstrate how remarkable our armed forces are and raise funds for the rehabilitation of injured service men and women. Little did they know that their idea would ultimately gain global attention, and royal endorsement.
The year-long selection process was more physically and emotionally draining than anyone had anticipated. But by September 2010 the final team was set: the two founders, four wounded soldiers, a polar guide, and patron Prince Harry. Once they'd ventured inside the arctic circle, they had to contend with new challenges. Pulling sleds weighing more then 100kg over vast swathes of ice rubble, pressure ridges, and dangerous open water 'leads'; constant daylight; ground that could literally tear itself apart beneath them as they slept; and temperatures as low as -35 degrees. And all the time, they had to be alert for signs of the notoriously aggressive Polar Bears that roam the desolate landscape.
With every step fraught with risk, the trek tested its participants' resilience to the limit. Each of these brave men tells their story here, along with that of the extraordinary expedition itself: the rigorous training, the meticulous preparation, and of course, the final, awe-inspiring journey across the ice. They returned as heroes again - proof that strength of mind can be every bit as powerful as strength of body, and an inspiration to us all.

    The synopsis is probably enough
This didn't live up to my expectations, which might say more about my expectations than the book itself. If you are okay with stories of male bonding via killing, drinking, and physical challenges then you might enjoy this more, but I didn't ever feel particularly engaged. They produced the event (walking to the North Pole) to raise money for injured soldiers which seems worthy, and yet somehow the book comes across more as a piece of slick promotion than an engagement with adventure and tough issues. The narrators are good.
Truly inspiring book what an amazing story
