Title: How to Be a Muslim
    Subtitle: An American Story

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-06-17
    Publisher: Beacon Press
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 23 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
A young Muslim leader's memoir of his struggles to forge an American Muslim identity.
Haroon Moghul was thrust into the spotlight after 9/11, becoming an undergraduate leader at New York University's Islamic Center and forced into appearances everywhere: on TV, before interfaith audiences, in print. Moghul was becoming a prominent voice for American Muslims even as he struggled with his relationship to Islam. In high school he was barely a believer and entirely convinced he was going to hell. He sometimes drank. He didn't pray regularly. All he wanted was a girlfriend.
But as he discovered, it wasn't so easy to leave religion behind. To be true to himself, he needed to forge a unique American Muslim identity that reflected his beliefs and personality. How to Be a Muslim reveals a young man coping with the crushing pressure of a world that fears Muslims, struggling with his faith and searching for intellectual forebears, and suffering the onset of bipolar disorder. This is the story of the second-generation immigrant, of what it's like to lose yourself between cultures and how to pick up the pieces.
    Critic Reviews:
"In sometimes heartbreaking and staggering prose laced with subtle and sardonic humor, Moghul (The Order of Light) shares what it looks like to hammer out an American Muslim identity. As Moghul loses himself and seeks himself, readers will appreciate his story as a second-generation Muslim immigrant, but also as a representative of the modern man: searching, groping, discovering, losing, loving, hoping, dreaming, and suffering. Highly recommended for its candor and relatability, this book will invite readers to fathom what it means to grasp Islam - and religion and spirituality in general." (Publishers Weekly)
"Between Homer Simpson and Muhammad Iqbal, Rumi and Kobe Bryant, Haroon Moghul's profound, honest, entertaining, and hilarious memoir emerges as an important voice for our times. The title, How to Be a Muslim, doesn't do this revealing and impressive memoir justice. It should simply be called 'How to Be a Human'. By showing us his warts, pain, flaws, insecurities, demons, and hypocrisies, Moghul ultimately reveals the joy, wonder, and purpose of living and being in the messy, conflicted playground that is modern life." (Wajahat Ali, author of The Domestic Crusaders)
"How to Be a Muslim is at once a poignant spiritual memoir, a gripping tale of love and survival, and a pop-culture-infused retelling of an ancient tradition. Packed with wit, wisdom, and wry intelligence, Haroon Moghul's story should be read by anyone who wants to understand the complexity and reality of religion in America today." (Peter Manseau, author of One Nation, Under Gods)

    Publisher's Summary:
If you have ever wondered what real love is and wished you could have it forever, this story is for you.
"God will write through you." Those were almost the last private words Mother Teresa spoke to acclaimed filmmaker Christina Stevens - urging her to share her personal story with the world. A similar calling had come months earlier when Mother Teresa appeared to Christina in a dream, summoning her to India to film her message to the world. Without hesitation, Christina boarded a plane for Calcutta. Little did she know when destiny beckons and a saint takes your hand, miraculous events and profound discoveries are around every corner.
Christina dipped her pen into the timelessness of the soul to share memories, dreams, and reflections that reach beyond time and space. While this remarkable account of her experience with Mother Teresa covers only a few weeks, it embraces centuries.
Open your heart as you listen. Christina's narration and her performance of many voices interlaced with sounds and inspirational music will illuminate the golden threads weaving through the fabric of your life and the fabric of all living things in our world - none of which may ever be the same again.
    Members Reviews:
I do not recommend this book.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If there was no music and someone else read it.
What could Christina Stevens have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Written more about Mother Teresa and actually checked her facts about the Catholic faith.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christina Stevens?
    Not sure.
    Any additional comments?
This is a book about the author, not a book about Mother Teresa. As a Catholic who knows her faith, I was put off with this book and her inability to research what Catholicism is. Mother Teresa is the epitome of the Catholic faith.
    Outstanding!
I have read this book now a few times and this was my first time listening to it. I loved it! The message Christina Stevens shares with all of us through her journey is what the world needs now which is Love! It is an eye opening and comforting story of hope that is a treat to listen to in the busy days in traffic or on a peaceful trip to the beach. Either way the message is clear and beautiful. A gift to all of us.
    Love!
An amazing and inspirational story! Interesting while also being motivational. Life lessons via a personal story

    Publisher's Summary:
I Am Not The Same Girl: Renewed is the life story of Stacy Lattisaw. As a young Rhythm and Blues (R&B) singer, she completed a total of 12 albums and toured with Michael Jackson and the Jacksons. She traveled the world as a singer and shared the stage with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Teddy Pendergrass, Stephanie Mills, Johnny Gill, and a host of others. As she began to mature in age and mind, her desires began to change, and she cried out to God and asked him to fill the void in her life. Soon after, Stacy walked away from the secular music world and dedicated her life to the Lord. Today she is renewed and walking in the destiny that God has set for her life.

    Inspiring!
If you know who Stacy Lattisaw is then it's an interesting book if you don't then it's not for you. It's short, sweet and inspiring. I learned so much about her. I read this book in only a few hours after receiving it and I gained so much knowledge about her. Take some time and take a stroll down memory lane and be inspired.
    Five Stars
The book was very good and I will recommend it to everyone that wants to renew their lives.
Where did stacy Lattisaw go? This book will tell you, but...
Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Ms. Lattisaw. I grew up buying her records and enjoying her music and her superb voice.
I had often wondered why she faded away from the public eye when she had so much talent behind her... I found out by reading this book. And although it was nice to "reconnect" with Stacy and catch up with her, this is a review for her book so here is my take:
Stacy Lattisaw never really was much fascinated by stardom; She was a family-oriented person and she came from a solid family background. She enjoyed singing, but never really dreamed of being a 'star'... And this shows in the writing of this book....
The book reads like an essay written by a middle school student. She repeats her statements over and over again. Her sentence structure is awkward. It literally reads like a middle-school student wrote it...
She quickly glosses over the process of her being discovered, of going into a studio to record an album and many other experiences wher she could have narrated it so that we felt that we had been there and witnessed the process. Meeting and socializing with other celebrities is covered in a paragraph without much detail in it...
I am glad Ms. Lattisaw followed her heart and pursued a life tightly-knit to her religious beliefs. It's just that, as a fan of her music, I was left not knowing much about her musical career, as she only quickly mentions this in passing. And did I mention that it reads like a middle-school student wrote it?
Do yourself a favor, skip the book and buy one of her albums on CD. You will have a much better time.
    Great book.
I really enjoyed this book. Stacy has a great story to tell about her life in the business and about what she is doing now.
the item itself more like a **VERY* thin
Fair to so so purchase, the item itself more like a **VERY* thin, small booklet or pamphlet than the/a REAL book I was expecting.

"I was here. I saw beauty. I embraced it." - Kara Tippetts
How do you live out extravagant love in the everyday moments? How do you celebrate grace when your life turns out differently than the one you dreamed?
Kara Tippetts discovered how to find joy in the small moments of life. She learned how to hold tight to hope, even while battling intense physical and emotional pain. And she lived out the truth that God can redeem any story.
In her final book, Kara offers gentle reflections on living and dying well. She invites us to cultivate soft hearts, even when we face great disappointment. Her ideas for living are hard-won, wrestled with in the crucible of family, illness, and faith. And her constant reminder is that whether we are in the midst of dark days or mundane moments, Jesus is always there, life is surprisingly beautiful, and God is forever good.

    And It Was Beautiful
There is a naivete in health.
An innocence that encourages long term planning without a second thought. A simple trust that you will be there for the next big thing.
But none of those things should be taken for granted; there are no guarantees.
Words like "able" and "more time" will have a different feel when there is disease; when they are used in a story like Kara Tippett's.
"And It Was Beautiful" is a book about cancer, yet it is not about cancer. It is a book about dying, but it is not about dying.
It is about the way to live life beautifully â to value each moment.
It is about the struggle to admit your own weakness and to depend on God to give you strength and to fill your days with His grace.
This book was easy to read, but so hard to finish. I did not want it to end.
When I first heard of her, I was looking for an example of someone who knew how to see beauty even in a story that included something like cancer, someone who understood the word "hard" as a noun and who knew their own weakness and what it looked like to search for the grace to make it each day. Â
Someone who could put this struggle into words.
    That someone was Kara.
"And It Was Beautiful" is a collection of those words.
(Thank you so much Litfuse Publicity for providing a free e-book copy of this book so that I could give my honest review)
Discovering Jesus Through a Life Lived Beautifully
If you know Kara Tippetts, even if only through her writing, you knew what it was like to watch someone fully embrace God in the ordinary routines of life.
Kara wrote from her view point of holding on to life and those she loved with an open hand - allowing the details of God in every corner of her world.
She lived life BIG - she loved BIG - and she shared her life with us openly and honestly through her blog, Mundane Faithfulness.
Before Kara gracefully exited life here, she authored The Hardest Peace, and co-authored Just Show Up.

    Publisher's Summary:
Learn more about the new "Bachelor" Arie Luyendyk from one of the people who knew him best "Bachelorette" Emily Maynard Johnson.
Millions know Emily Maynard Johnson from her unprecedented double appearances on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Millions also know that neither of the relationships from those shows lasted much longer than a commercial break.
Overcome with embarrassment following her nationally televised failures at romance, Emily finally committed her heart to the only one she knew would never leave her empty and alone. Abandoning her desire to be chosen by men and finding peace in the fact that she was already chosen by God, Emily found the joy she had been looking for in serving God.
In I Said Yes, Emily tells the story of her life before and after reality TV fame, describing the profound new reality she discovered when she forsook fame in favor of the Lord. At the end of a long, fruitless search for a man, this courageous young woman found the truest love of all waiting right in front of her. To that love, Emily said yes.
    Members Reviews:
    Ok, not great
Book is about Emily's life and journey in finding God and ultimately love. I wish the book had provided more tips and information for HOW she got through the hard times, HOW she grew closer to God, not just simply that she did. I think Emily has a great story that could help a lot of people in similar soul-searching situations, had she gone there. Maybe she'll write another book :-)
    Interesting read for bachelor/bachelorette fans
I really enjoyed hearing the behind the scene take on what goes into the making of the bachelor and bachelorette series and also how Emily's real life has shaped her into the person she is today. I would have preferred she had narrated it herself though after being on tv and people knowing how you talk and sound the narrator didn't match Emily's personality. This would have made it way more enjoyable to listen to in my opinion if you are a fan of hers.
Duh clueless & holier than thou
Pill popping, self centered and spoiled brat. Boooring even more than her dates on the bachelor & the bachelotette. Don't waste your time
    Pretty Cheesy
I always loved Emily on the Bachelor/rette but I didn't know she was this cheesy in real life. The story was ok, and I appreciate her being so honest about the experience of losing her fiancé. That made me feel for her. I just could have gone without some of the stuff that sounded like it was purely there to clear her name.
    She is amazing!
I had no idea what Emilys true story was until now. To this day she is mentioned more than any other person on either show. A lot of men fell hard for Emily and they still mention her to this day 5 years later. She puts missing pieces together in this book. To my surprise she really isnt a stuck on herself snob that doesnt care about others. She really cares and is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for writing your story! Now I have to look up the latest on you, Tyler and your family! Congratulations for finding Gods will for your family and doing what it takes to make it all work.

    Publisher's Summary:
Justin Wren knows what it's like to feel like the world is against you. Like many kids, Justin was bullied as a child. Fueled by the anger he felt toward his tormenters, Justin trained hard and propelled his dream of becoming a UFC fighter into reality. But the pain from his childhood didn't dissipate, and Justin fell into a spiral of depression and addiction, leading him on a path toward destruction. After getting kicked out of his training community, his career was in shambles, and he had nowhere else to go, so Justin attended a men's retreat, and it was there he found God.
Justin joined several international mission trips that opened his eyes and his heart to a world filled with suffering deep in the jungle of the Democratic Republic of Congo. There he came across the Mbuti Pygmy tribe, a group of people persecuted by neighboring tribes and forced into slavery. His encounter with the Pygmy tribe left him wondering who was there to help them, and in that moment Justin stepped out of the ring and into a fight for the forgotten.

    Title: Undivided
Subtitle: A Muslim Daughter, Her Christian Mother, Their Path to Peace

    Narrator: Suzie Althens, Simona Chitescu-Weik
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 22 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-28-15
    Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 13 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
"Mom, I have something I need to tell you...." They didn't talk. Not for 10 years. Not about faith anyway. Instead a mother and daughter tiptoed with pain around the deepest gulf in their lives - the daughter's choice to leave the Church, convert to Islam, and become a practicing Muslim.
Undivided is a real-time story of healing and understanding with alternating chapters from each as they struggle to learn how to love each other in a whole new way. Although this is certainly an audiobook for mothers and daughters struggling with interfaith tensions, it is equally meaningful for mothers and daughters divided by tensions in general. It is an important work for parents whose adult children have left the family's belief system and for those same children to better understand their parents. And Undivided is an up close and personal look at the life of an Islamic convert - at a time when attitudes are mixed about Muslims (and Muslim women in particular), but interest in such women is high. Undivided is a tremendously important book for our time. Will Patricia be able to fully trust in the Christ who "holds all things together"?
Will Alana find new hope or new understanding as the conversation gets deeper between them? And can they answer the question that both want desperately to experience, which is: "Can we make our torn family whole again?"
    Members Reviews:
    Undivided
Loved this book. Helped me with issues I have in my personal life. The book confirmed my saying that communication is a key ingredient to peace and understanding.
A Tale as Old as Time: Agreeing to Disagree
This account challenges the reader to lay aside any belief system they have in order to achieve openmindedness regarding each author's perspective. It can be used as a discussion template for many parent - adult child conflict regarding choices either of them make.
    Confused Muslim
As I once concluded before Muslims are so confused. I felt like Alana didn't care for her family to want to become Muslim but just truly wanted her mother to love her and to get to know her. Her mother on the other hand prayed for her daughter to know truth. Alana is so confused that she believes that Allah and Jesus of Islam is no different than God and Jesus of Christianity. This belief she has is so far from the truth. I've personally contacted Alana and she's unwilling to testify what she believes is truth. I feel like she's a New Ager. Any rational person would be able to tell that Mormonism (Isa. 29:11) and Islam (Isa. 29:12) can't both be true while understanding the verses (Isa. 29:1-12) in context. They can both be false but they both can't be true.

    Publisher's Summary:
Laura Sobiech tells the amazing story of how God used her sons battle with cancer to touch the lives of millions.
"Okay, Lord, you can have him. But if he must die, I want it to be for something big. I want someones life to be changed forever." This is what Laura Sobeich prayed when she found out her 17-year-old son had only one year to live. With this desperate prayer, she released her son to Gods will. At that point, Zach Sobiech was just another teenager battling cancer. When his mother told him to think about writing good-bye letters to family and friends, he decided instead to write songs. One of them, "Clouds", captured hearts and changed not one life but millions, making him an international sensation. But Zachs story is not just about music. Its a testament to what can happen when you live as if each day might be your last. Its a story about the human spirit. Its about how God used a dying boy from a small town in Minnesota to touch the hearts of millions - including top executives in the music industry, major music artists, news anchors, talk show hosts, actors, priests and pastors, and school children across the globe. Zach once said, "I want to be known as the kid who went down fighting, and didnt really lose." Fly a Little Higher is about how God used Zach to do something big.

    One of my favorite audiobooks
Where does Fly a Little Higher rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    The top.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fly a Little Higher?
The very beginning when Laura finds the words to comfort her son in his deepest suffering.
What does Amber Quick bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    Expression, reality.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Just as it is--"How God Answered..."
    Any additional comments?
I couldn't put it down. Afterwards, I searched for another book just as inspiring and so far, I can't find one that would move me as much as this one did. My problems I thought were so big in my life bringing up my children were "nothing" compared to the challenge Laura had to do. What a mountain she climbed day in and day out. This woman gave me a new perspective about suffering and triumph. I am humbled.
    Through Zach's Eyes
What did you like about this audiobook?
Anyone who does not read this 'treasure' is missing a real treat. Will it make you cry? I think so. This young man battles through a particularly aggressive cancer. A battle that he loses. However we all know that battles are rarely fought alone and I found that I fell in love with his parents, his siblings, extended family and friends, his sweat heart and his community.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
Even though I have worked in the medical community this story written by a gifted woman and artist educated me greatly and has inspired me to 'do' rather than 'talk' about assisting the pediatric cancer fight.
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
Laura has illustrated her story with experience and facts. These facts should make us, the voters and our Government drop our heads in shame.

    Great Book!
One of the things I enjoy so much about Leland's prose is that it is written like if he was right there speaking with you. Each of the stories are charming and make me laugh. Each story is told with humor and sincerity. I look forward to his next piece of work and would definitely recommend 'This Is Why' to anyone reminiscing about the 'good ol days' or those curious about simpler times.
    A fun read
Leland Spencer's new book will bring fond memories for those who grew up in a rural area. The book is quite tongue-in-cheek and a quick, fun read.
