Love

The favorite Christmas book in my house.

Good, but not as good as the other Priscilla books

My daughters and I love the Priscilla series (esp. "Priscilla Superstar!"). In general, they are very well written in snappy verse, and the illustrations are adorable -- like crossing Dr. Suess with Kevin Henkes. However, this Priscilla book fell a bit short of the high standard established by the other Priscilla books. The rhymes seem forced, and the story is kind of lame (although the illustrations are still very cute). If you don't already own a Priscilla book, start with "Superstar!" or "Splish-Splash Surprise", both of which are much better than this Santa book.

"Used book"

This was a Christmas gift for my Grand daughter and the book jacket was ripped and had three different price tags on back, two half torn off with a newer one on top of those. This was supposed to be a new book, no mention of used! Amazon the more I use you the least likely I use you in the future!

Wonderful story, beautiful artwok

We can't say enough good things about this book!

My 5 year old loves it, asked tonight if i could read it as our bedtime story every night! It has the most beautiful artwork, and the writing is captivating.

Definitely a book we will read over and over ... every childs bookshelf should have this book!

We love Priscilla

My daughter is almost 5 and we have been reading and collecting the Priscilla books for the past 6 months. With it's Dr. Seussish cantor it is a fun read and one we will come back to every year for many to come. The illustrations are adorable as always. This is a great addition to a holiday book collection.

Discover Pinch and Dash

This is a great book for young children learning to read. Pinch and Dash are delightful. The illustrations help tell the story and are well done.

A fun book, but a ton of running back and forth

The bulk of this book is Pinch wandering back and forth from his house to Dash's house, transporting ingredients one by one, until they have enough ingredients to finally make some soup.

It has great illustrations, and it has a great beginning vocabulary, particularly stressing the words Pinch and Dash, and not just in the context of the main character's names.

But, I didn't like the wandering back and forth, all caused by a lack of preparedness, and I didn't like that they were never able to actually eat the soup. I'd rather have kids' books that end in some kind of accomplishment or life lesson, instead of just age appropriate vocabulary, fun illustrations, and a failed quest.

Pros:

+Great illustrations

+Uses the words Pinch and Dash a lot, and in a lot of different contexts, so kids will understand those words after reading this book

+At first I thought this was a book about thieves, who would "pinch" something, and then dash off, but luckily, it's just about some animals trying unsuccessfully to make soup.

+The audio book has a great reader

Cons:

-A ton of walking back and forth

-I wonder what exactly this is teaching kids

Refreshingly new material for early readers

An artful story written for Early Readers, supplemented with intriguing watercolor pastels. Perfect for students learning to read, the vocabulary has the right amount of repetition, affording confidence to new readers, as well as new and interesting words that offer a bit of a challenge and keep the reader engaged. Kudos to the illustrator who interprets Pinch's long walk home as climbing the stairs to the other side of the duplex. A parable about sharing and `getting along' give the story some meat. Let's see more in this series about Pinch and Dash!

A Really Patriotic Possum

This is a history book for very young children. I bought it for the young children in my family. The only thing I have a right to say about this book is that I like the church mouse's view of Benjamin Franklin's life in BEN and Me, better than this possum's view of John Paul Jones. My mind kept chirping to me about the horrors of shipboard life in the late seventeen hundreds, about John Paul Jones time in the British Navy, all of which is not useful to what is essentially an outline of history. So here is a review from children 6, 9, and 13. The Synopsis is written by the thirteen year old.

This book explains the beginning of the American Revolution from the view of a young boy and a possum who want to help his friends and neighbors be free. The line drawings are large and clear.

The children who have read this either loved it or hated it. My 9 year old grandson looked at me and said, "A possum? Seriously? My 6 year old granddaughter read this by chapters at bedtime and was happy to find what comes next. I gave it to the 13 year old who loved the clear steps the reasons for the naval war was important in 1775, and finished it in about 15 minutes to read it and write her synopsis. The other 13 year old handed it back to me and said no thank you, which makes sense since he is not the audience the book is aimed at.

I am not sorry I bought it, the bare facts of the naval war are accurate, and someone may find it useful down the road.

Fun personalized book

For my nephew named Edward, (Eddie). Kids are more into books that they can relate to when the main character is named after them.

I Can Be Quiet

The children's book "I Can Be Quiet" is an excellent book for young children. I bought one for reading to my grandchildren. My 4-year old grandson asks me to read it to him over and over again...! He just loves it....! The book is short enough that the child can sit for the time that it takes to read it, and long enough to be able to teach a child a very important lesson. This is an excellent book....I would highly recommend it..!
