The first time, I had to read it to her THREE times
I received this book this afternoon and took it up to the fort to read to my granddaughter. I figured it would be a quick read. Instead, her mom fixed dinner while I sat up, and at her request read the book three times.
As a very early reader, she picked out some words, and even sounded out a few she didn't know because they rhymed! She had to look for the pictures of the items he couldn't find, and loved finding the spider in every page!
She then brought the book inside and showed it to her mom!
Like all kids, she isn't a fan of cleaning her room, so I may read this to her a few more times. ;-)
Many thanks to the author who sent me a complimentary autographed copy of the book for my granddaughter. We both loved the story and the pictures. I hope that with wonderful stories like this, one day my granddaughter will be writing her own Amazon reviews.
Edited - she has already had her Mom reread the book to her as well. Methinks it is going on her list of favorites along with Green Eggs and Ham. :-)
A WELL DONE FUNNY BOOK WITH A GOOD LESSON. Both the Little Ones and Adults will enjoy this one.
My goodness - I did relate to this book. "Clean your room." If I heard that when I was a kid once, I heard it a thousand times. "Clean you room." If I said that to my son when he was growing up once, I said it a thousand times. "Clean your room." With four grandsons....well, you do the math! Now I don't know about others, but I still hear this command...from my wife...if reference to my home office. (See my profile picture of the most organized corner of my "den."
This little book by Jami McDaniel Stichter hits the nail on the head. In this case though the cluttered room (which actually looked quite natural to me), got a bit out of hand:
"And this I am vey sorry to say,
    They couldn't find him
    that horrible day.
    So they got some equipment
    to clean the junk up,
    A bulldozer, a crane, and
    a BIG dump truck."
Yes, the poor kid vanished...just simply vanished in the jumble of what was his room! Will they ever find him? What was and is his fate?
The author has used a gentle and engaging rhyme to tell the story of Colton Colin Coil Calloon who would "never ever clean his room!" Colton Colin Coil Calloon was a pretty typical little boy (and girl I might say...remembering my daughter), and kids will relate to this one quickly; as will frustrated parents!
The art work is snappy, busy and uses vivid colors which instantly catch the eye. The illustrations match the wonderful text perfectly. The book overall; text, illustrations and physical appearance has been done in a very professional manner and despite the fact that this is a paper back, the binding is quite stout and the paper is of a grade that should last through many readings.
This little story will fascinate the wee ones and bring a smile to the lips of parents or grandparents.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free for an honest review. An honest review you got.

    The Magnificent Magnifying Lens
I am an early childhood eductor and find the book to be an excellent source for a science area in every preschool/kindergarten. The book uses a child to teach other children to use a magnifying lens and includes the authentic science words with an explanation given by the young girl character. The children can easily understand the concepts and meaning of words that scientists use daily. I find the book child friendly and promotes curiosity to use a magnifying lens. I also like the last section where the authors suggest activities parents could do with their children.

    I love this story!
I went to a new salon last Saturday and began talking with the owner who actually knows this author. I write for children as well and I have to say Mrs. Perry nailed it. The characters are warm and dynamic and the graphics are so bright and clear any child would learn the lessons contained in its pages and have a great time doing it. A must buy if you have little ones.
    Awesome book!!
Great book! I recommend it for anyone with children. If you don't have children, buy the book if you have nieces, nephews, little cousins, or friends with children! They will love to see the pictures of the animals and learn the different sounds that the animals make. I hope to see more adventures of Sweetie and Coco!
    Interactive children's book
I personally know the author and I am very proud of this book. I recommend to any educator or person with children. I look forward to more to come.

    Beautiful red
"I hate my red hair!" and the story takes off.....
Tiffany feels like her red hair sets her apart from the rest of the kids around her. She just wants to be "normal" and blend in, not feeling all weird because her red hair makes her stick out from the rest of the pack. Her wise mom sits her daughter down and they have a tte-à-tte regarding the beauty that Tiffany possesses on top of her head. Her mother explains that the colour red is a beautiful colour. Why after all, roses are red, red is a colour in the rainbow and Christmas stockings are red....the world badly need the colour red. Red is the true colour of love.
With rich language and adorable, sweet illustrations Mom convinces Tiffany to accept her red hair which is one of her assets that makes her unique and special. This book is beautifully written and is sure to boost your child's self-esteem. It is a perfect read-aloud and will evoke lots of discussion about your own child's uniqueness, a uniqueness to celebrate not shy away from. I highly recommend this book.
    Colorful & imaginative
Long time since I picked up a children's book (my kids are grown and gone and no grandkids yet), but I'm glad I spent some time with Tiffany Haisten's delightful âRed Is The Color Of . . .â It centers around a little girl named Tiffany (don't know if this is autobiographical) who comes home from school distraught because her classmates teased her about her red hair. Fortunately Tiffany has a sweet and understanding mom who lovingly walks her through why red is a good color, the color of many wonderful things, especially âthe color of the love that grows in your heart.â
This is a very upbeat book supported by colorful and imaginative artwork by Jason Hutton. Tiffany herself is rendered as cute but a little rag-tag, which makes her a real little girl. This book brought back happy memories for me of reading bedtime stories to my kids when they were small. Bet it will do the same for you, and if you have a little one, this is the book you want to cuddle up and share with them. Highly recommended.
    Perfect for the Classroom
As a former first grade teacher, in my opinion, Red is the Color of... would be perfect for read-aloud story time with any class. An easy reader with beautiful illustrations makes it a delightful book to share in small groups or with the whole class. The theme of accepting both yourself and others would not be lost on younger readers and teaches a valuable lesson about caring for one another. I would recommend this book to anyone with small children and Pre-K-2 classroom teachers as well. Bravo to Ms Haisten for a job well done!
    Hooray For Red Heads!
Being a ginger, I suffered all the normal insults. "Carrot top", "Tomato" "Little Orphan Anne"...you name it. I wish I'd had a book as lovely as this one back then.
