In the recent Green Renaissance episode with Nick Brooks (#4 Adapting to Climate Change), we briefly touched upon the impending climate risks that supply chains must adapt to. Following that discussion, I came across a CDP report that highlighted how companies can face ‘up to $120 billion in increased costs in the next 5 years due to environmental risks in their supply chains’.

I then decided to reach out to Sonya Bhonsle to help me dive deeper into the subject. Sonya is the Global Head of Value Chains at CDP, which is an organisation that helps companies and cities across the world disclose and manage their environmental impact. In this episode, Sonya discusses her role in shaping sustainable supply chains, and what steps some companies are taking to improve their impact on forests, water security, and the climate.

I’m excited to share my conversation with Martha Dillon who is a sustainability engineer by day and a climate magazine editor by night! In 2018, Martha established the environmental magazine, It’s Freezing in LA! (IFLA!) which unites artists and writers everywhere to present their take on how climate change impacts society. Through her work, Martha seamlessly blends science, art, and literature into her everyday life. It was amazing to learn how she combines her background in engineering with her interest in scientific communication, in order to make difficult and often confusing subjects like climate change more digestible and accessible to everyone.

Ringing in the new year with a new episode!

Before Christmas, I spoke with Rebecca, who is the Growth Manager at Klimato. Klimato is a Scandinavian start-up that helps restaurants label the carbon footprint of their meals. Prior to joining Klimato, Rebecca worked at an influencer marketing agency (Tailify) working in Sales and Business Development. In this episode, we speak about how she’s coping after moving into the field of sustainability, how she’s applying her sales skills in her new role, and what new start-ups excite her!

Episode 2 features Paul Newnham, who inspires me so much as he spent decades working on humanitarian issues to tackle poverty, injustice, and hunger. He is currently the director of the Advocacy Hub for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger (SDG 2). We spoke about the complexities of current food systems and why chefs are key players in promoting environmentally sustainable and nutritious foods.

Welcome to Episode 1 of Green Renaissance!

I’m pleased to start off this podcast with Kalle Nilver, the founder of GoClimate and a father of two. Before GoClimate, Kalle built a real estate search engine (Booli) and a website for traffic detection (Sensebit) after struggling with house hunting and unpredictable traffic! It was so exciting to speak with someone who creates practical solutions for everyday problems. However, Kalle’s story inspired me mainly because he channeled his strengths in web development towards addressing his climate anxiety. Upon realizing the burden that climate change would place on his children’s future, he radically took steps to lower his carbon footprint (no more plane rides, no more meat!) and launched GoClimate so others may have the chance to do so too!
