Rabbi Steve Leder- is the senior rabbi of Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles. After receiving his degree in writing and graduating cum laude from Northwestern University, and spending time studying at Trinity College, Oxford University, Leder received a master's degree in Hebrew letters in 1986 and rabbinical ordination in 1987 from Hebrew Union College.
He is the author of several books: The Extraordinary Nature of Ordinary Things, More Money Than God: Living a Rich Life Without Losing Your Soul, the bestseller More Beautiful Than Before: How Suffering Transforms Us, and his most recent book, The Beauty of What Remains: How our greatest Fear Becomes our Greatest gift.
In this podcast, Rabbi Leder shares with us about why he wrote his latest book, and how, in over 30 years of sitting with thousands of families experiencing grief, he was not prepared for the loss of his own father.
He has learned so much about grief since his dad’s recent death, primarily how much death teaches us about life. The purpose of writing this book was to “bring every reader to that one extra degree, to the deepest truths, of what death comes to teach us about life.” The book explores the tension between Steve Leder the Rabbi, and Steve Leder the son.
