  • Having Hope When We Are Discouraged
The sermon explores the opening chapter of Ruth, contrasting Elimelech's flight to Moab during a famine with Naomi's subsequent return to Bethlehem. It highlights Orpah's decision to retreat to her former gods and Ruth's profound commitment to follow Naomi and her God despite immense personal loss. The preacher emphasizes that Ruth's determination serves as a model for believers to cling to Christ regardless of circumstances or tribulation. Although Naomi perceives her suffering as bitter judgment, the message asserts that God uses affliction to redirect His people toward His redemptive plan. Ultimately, the narrative reveals how God sovereignly employs a foreigner to establish the lineage of King David and Jesus Christ.

  • That They May Do It With Joy
The sermon exhorts the congregation to submit to their spiritual leaders, emphasizing that obedience should be motivated by a desire to bring joy rather than grief to pastors. Drawing primarily from Hebrews 13:17, the speaker explains that pastors act as shepherds who watch over souls and must give an account to God, making their support crucial for the church's health. The message contrasts biblical authority with cultural resistance, warning against the Nicolaitan desire for clerical dominance while encouraging believers to follow their pastor's faith and example. It further challenges attendees to actively pray for their leader's spiritual growth and protection, citing Matthew 10:41 regarding the rewards of receiving God's messengers. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a collective commitment to support Pastor Barron through prayer and joyful cooperation as the church prepares for its relocation.

  • The Only Ground That Doesn't Shake: Boasting in the Cross
Let's be honest for a second: we're all chasing something. Even if you don't use religious language, you're on a quest. We all are. We're hunting for a sense of worth, a feeling of security, and the quiet assurance that our lives actually matter. Deep down, the human heart functions like a factory, constantly churning out things to brag about. We want to point to a title, a paycheck, an achievement, or even a reputation and say, "There. That's why I'm valuable." But we know the problem. These sources of pride? They are fragile. A career can end with one bad quarter. A reputation built over decades can be ruined by a misunderstanding. Even religious performance, when it's just about checking boxes, leaves the soul feeling dry. When the storms of life hit—grief, failure, fear—the things we boast in often crumble like sand. So, where do we go? Into this universal struggle, the gospel of Jesus Christ offers a message that is both shocking and incredibly freeing. The apostle Paul, a man who had more reasons to brag than almost anyone else, boiled his entire life down to one radical pivot: "Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 6:14). This isn't a self-help program. It's an invitation to stop leaning on your own successes and start finding your life in what Jesus accomplished. It's the only ground that doesn't shake.

It is a turning away from grief to joy. The repentant people of God will receive beauty. This great exchange should encourage us. The affliction is light when compared to the beauty that is to come. He will place us in Zion. He has promised to give us beauty for ashes. He will give us new garments. Set your affections on things above. Rejoice in all.

  • The First Day of the Week
In Luke 23:50–24:12 we come to Luke's account of the resurrection of Christ. We read this account as those who believe in the risen Lord Jesus, as did Luke's readers. The resurrection is in our confession of faith, after all. Luke is not evangelizing us. He is, rather, assuring us of the certainty of the things we have heard (Luke 1:4). But even more, he is assuring us of the certainty of Jesus' reliable word. In this account we meet the disciples in their grief and confusion. And Jesus meets them—as he meets us—with an announcement of great hope: life from the dead.

  • Jesus Is the Resurrection: John 11:17-37 Bible Study
Pastor Mike continues in our study of the Gospel of John with John 11:17-37. This Bible study explores the theological reality of death and the hope found exclusively in Jesus Christ as the resurrection and the life. Drawing from John 11, it contrasts the despair of those without faith with the confident expectation of believers who trust in eternal life. The preacher emphasizes that while physical death is inevitable for all, spiritual death is conquered through belief in Christ. Personal anecdotes illustrate how grief can be mingled with hope when anchored in the promise of resurrection. Ultimately, the message calls listeners to place their faith in Jesus to receive everlasting life and overcome the fear of mortality.
