Everyone has their own escape from reality and the world for awhile. For Some, its motorcycles, for others flying, then you have some people take trips and vacations. Walt Disney wanted to create a place where people could forget about the depressing realities of the real world for awhile. When Disneyland and Walt Disney World was created, it was during the height of the Vietnam and Cold Wars; just about a decade before the ending of WW2. 

So although Disneyland and Disney World are both relatively safe places to visit and stay at, there are still some tragic events and horrors lurking in the shadows. WDW is too big of a place to cover in one episode, so it’ll be broken down into several episodes through out our adventures of visiting the dark side of amusement parks.

Kennywood Amusement park is in West Mifflin Pa approximately 8 miles from Downtown pittsburgh, and about an hour or so from Morgantown WV. The park is located along PA route 837 aka Kennywood Blvd.

In recent years, Kennywood would be ranked as favorite dark attraction park by dark ride and funhouse enthusiasts. As a huge halloween fan, Kennywood has several haunted attractions during their horror nights season and riding a roller coaster at night hits differently than the daytime hours. The last time I was at one of their horror nights, it was not disappointing.

Although Kennywood is for the most part a safe park, it does have a dark shadow that will always be there, no matter how much light they try to shine on it.

Hershey PA, when you hear the name or think of Hershey, your first thoughts are probably Hershey Chocolate, b/c that’s what it’s known for. But Along with that is the Hershey Amusement park. It’s 1978, and the summer is just getting started; you and your friends spend a Saturday going to one of the amusement parks in the area that has one of the first new modern water attractions in Vernon Township NJ; Action Park. Where you’re in charge of your own action. On the car ride there, you and your friends would be taking bets on who got injured; b/c it’s not a question of if someone gets injured, but who…. Regardless of the promising note of leaving action park alive like it was right of passage, this never stopped people from going or returning to action park.

Growing up what was your favorite amusement park to go to? For me it was always six flags.  Welcome Back to Grim Attractions where we talk about and discuss the dark tales of amusement parks.
