In this film block, Jeremy and Brian explore the upward failing American idiot, a person who believes everything they do, no matter how heinous, is justified. They have to believe it. They are the hero of their own story. They are not wrong, the world is wrong. Whether they are part of the deep state or a fortune 500 company, their fuckups are always someone else fault. So of course, stories like this are best told as comedies where the audience is provided some much-needed ironic distance.

In this film block, Jeremy and Brian are joined by Michael Floyd to plunge into Jaws mockbusters. Since Jaws was the first blockbuster, these films made for a good starting point in exploring the phenomenon of mockbusters, which are often times lower budget movies with similar elements and themes that try to lure an audience by promising them—through posters and other marketing materials—a similar experience. The experience is seldom ever that, but, in this case, the results are are actually pretty great.
