Welcome to another edition of, How Does That Work? a special series within the Grit NW Podcast, built to help listeners from the Northwest Carpenters Union better understand the numerous services, benefits and advantages available to them as union members. 

In today’s episode we will meet Rob Kader, lead dispatcher for the Regional Council Central Dispatch Department.

We’ll start our conversation by understanding what the dispatch system is and why this service is so valuable to our members livelihoods and careers. 

Next, we’ll delve into the Mix 20/20 automated dispatch system and how it is used to connect union contractors with skilled labor regardless of time of day of geographic proximity. 

Later we’ll understand why members should keep their skill assessment sheets up to date and the importance of staying current on the dispatch list.

We’ll then learn the answer to the number one question members have when they call the dispatch department  and we’ll end our conversation by hearing where we can go to find out more information about this valuable service.

Our question today comes from J.G, a member of the local 271. 

J.G ask “Why don’t we see our union reps on our job’s more? I can’t remember the last time I saw one come out to check on us. What is the point of paying for reps if we never see them?”

To help us understand where our union reps are, we’ll ask Daniel Del Real, Union Rep and President of the Local 146.

Daniel will share with us where and what our union representation (reps) are up to on a day to day basis in the 1.1 million square miles that make up the Northwest Carpenters Union.
