Guests in The Sustainable Hour on 9 October 2019 are Matt Purbrick, co-author of ‘Grown & Gathered’ and ‘The Village’, and Megan Blair, member of the Transition Street Geelong movement, and a reader and user of these two beautiful recipe books – for an inspiring talk around organic wine production, community vacuum, idle time, balance and resilience.
Over the phone, Rob McKechnie gives us a report from the Spring Rebellion in Melbourne, where we also learn that a group of billionaire climate criminals had a ‘last supper’ today, and we talk with 11-year-old student Ben from St Patricks Primary School Climate Council about their results from writing letters to local and federal politicians.
We play an ABC-sketch about The Greta Thunberg Helpline, and a Bombs Away remix of Greta Thunberg‘s famous New York speech. We don’t normally play ads in our program, but in a time of a biodiversity emergency, we had to make room for a special advertisement for Geelong Council’s wildflower walk at McCarthy’s Reserve, which is part of the Geelong Biodiversity Month. As it often happens, we round the hour off with Missy Higgins‘ ‘The Difference’ and the transformative Thunberg-statement, ‘You are never too small to make a difference.’
