January 10, 2018Ep 234- The Cure for ScarcityWe all fall victim to scarcity thinking in our lives. When you operate out of a scarcity mindset, you play not to lose instead of playing to win. You blame other people for your shortcomings. You work against your purpose rather than work with the talents and abilities that God gave you to create value for the world. How do you overcome scarcity thinking? You can't eliminate scarcity thinking from your life completely but you can choose how long you sit in that scarcity and how far you let it take you. To give yourself the support you need for 2018, ask yourself the following questions: * Who do I need in my life to support my dreams? * What do I need to let go of to move forward more powerfully in my purpose? * Do you have a plan that entails creating the outcomes that you are looking for in your life? I talk about this and what my key to overcoming scarcity is in this week's podcast. Click on the podcast player to listen to the episode or you can catch the episode on Itunes....more12minPlay
November 01, 2017Ep 233- The Purpose of WorkWhy do you work? Is it for a paycheck and financial security? For something to do? Is it an expression of something that you feel called to do? Does it eradicate a problem that you care about? What is the purpose of work? I believe we are wired for work and value creation. I don't think God placed us on the Earth to do work that we hate for thirty years until we can retire. That's assuming you can retire. This week I tackle a couple of fallacies and issues that I have seen around work. Particularly in how people complain about work or in how they treat work. October 25, 2017Ep 232- Beware of the ButFake accountability throws leaders off and derails team members careers if we don't recognize it and address it in the moment. There's a simple word that a team member can use in a discussion that lets me know that they aren't taking full responsibility in a situation. The word “but”. Anytime that word gets used in a sentence I can throw out the statement that was made prior to this as the team member is revealing what they really think about the situation in the words that follow but. If we want to be leaders who exhibit and uphold total accountability in our business or organization there are a couple of things that we can improve on. * Minimize our ego. Issues that team members experience aren't about us. * Listen. Remove your agenda from the situation so that you can ask good questions. Waynes World 2 gives a great example of how not to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aXqgoiVb8E Creating total accountability isn't easy. It requires commitment and the ability to listen to subtle queues around when someone isn't taking full accountability. October 04, 2017Ep 230- Increasing Your Business Profits Through Quarterly PlanningWhen is it good to take the visionary, free spirited entrepreneur and put them in a box? That's a tough question. In the initial stages of a business, it's a good idea to say yes more often to get a feel for what your business is and the best way for it to create value. I know my business does not look like the same business it was when I started out nine years ago. As your business grows and matures, you do too. Off the cuff decisions start to get replaced with budgeting and planning. I don't want this to sound too depressing but it's a reality of the needs that a growing business has. Quarterly planning is a simple, effective way to boost business profits through focused direction, better communication and tying the what to the why of your business for every person that is involved. It's time to ditch the excuses of time, that's not the way I work, etc. and embrace a powerful next step in your business. This week's podcast is about how to do quarterly planning right. Here's the tool that I promised you to assess your goals each quarter as well, click here to get it. Show the podcast some love and rate and subscribe in iTunes as well.
