Contrary to the popular statement, there are stupid questions. Spend a few minutes on Quora and you will realize that.  There are times when you need to ask an obvious question.  A question that initially may sound like a stupid question.

Spend any amount of time in an industry and you will hear all of the bullshit that the majority of the business owners in that industry will start telling you.  How do you keep yourself thinking bigger than your industry?
In case you were wondering what bullshit I was referring to.  Here are some examples:

* You can't make money in this industry anymore.
* I just want to come in and do my craft and not have to worry about the business side of the business.
* This is the way it's always been done.

It's easy to become a victim over procrastination.  I've done it.  You've done it.  So you got behind on a project or let too many thing pile up on your desk.  What are you going to do now?
There are two schools of thought.
1.  Shut it down.  Ignore it. Hope it goes away.  It never does.  Feel guilty about it.  Start sliding into full-blown victimhood.

Most of us have a limit.  That place where we think is possible and that we are comfortable with.  Then there's beyond the limit.  That murky place of fear, doubt and insecurity.

When is it time to cut an underperforming employee loose?  I get this question all the time.  It's not always an easy question to answer not to mention that firing people sucks.
You want to be timely about the situation and have a process for handling development needs.  Too  many business owners wait and wait and wait to see if the employee turns it around on their own.  These types of things don't improve by accident.
Rather than worry about someone feelings let's worry about their future ability to be great.

How close should you get to the people who work for you?  It's an interesting question and one that can also be controversial. I had someone follow me at an event and take a shot at my suggestion that employees are more than just tools for our use and disposal.

According to Gallup workplace in engagement is at about 31%.  This means that two thirds of the workforce is not actively engaged in the objectives of the company.  The easy response to this is to blame it on the employees; Millenials are lazy, people just want a paycheck, etc.  People want more and we all need help and support.  This is where you come in.

It's been a little bit since I have talked about business owner education.  If you are entrepreneur, you are also someone who thirsts for knowledge and are always looking for the next big idea and way of getting better.  This is a good thing.
Be careful not to overload yourself with education that can't be utilized. Not only is this a waste of your time, it also keeps you from working on your objectives.

You ever tell someone to do something and they do it wrong?  If you have ever been a leader in any way, you have had that happen to you.  As a leader, it's important to not just deliver content to your team but to take the time and deliver context.
This key to communication separates a mediocre leader from a high level leader.  Many leaders don't want to take the time to thoroughly communicate what needs to be done. They are either too busy or too important to concern themselves with such matters.

Do you have consistency of character as a leader?  I don't mean, are you consistently a character but do you present yourself in a consistent way to your team?
There are a handful of things that leaders can do that are currency builders with their team.  Building currency is really about building trust so that the relationships with your team are productive.
One of those things is by following through on what you say you are going to.  This build credibility.
Another currency builder is being consistent with your character as a leader.  Which is about showing up to the office in a way that people know what they are going to get.
