    In the Parable of the Talents, a master gives talents (money) to three servants to manage until he returns from a journey. The master in the parable is Jesus and we are the servants given our talents (gifts) by Him. Pastor James asks, “What will you do with your talents–your faith and the Gospel entrusted to you by God?” Christians are challenged to use our talents productively in God’s service so that when He returns we will hear those wonderful words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Each time we gather for Holy Communion we join with “all the company of heaven” to praise and glorify our risen Lord and commune with Him—and with them. The saints above worship the risen Christ face-to-face; we worship the same risen Christ under the veil of the bread and wine at the altar.

And he re-stated what it means to love God by telling us to love our neighbor, too, because part of loving God is loving what or who God loves. What must we do to be saved? The answer is: Nothing.     When religious leaders asked Jesus “Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” they were trying to trick Him – and He knew it. He answered, “Render unto . . . God the things that are God’s.” Using those words, Pastor James speaks to “the things that are God’s” and points out that Jesus’ answer rests in the words found in Genesis 1, when God said, “Let us make man in our image.” The most important lesson is this: We belong to God, and He wants and deserves our first and our best.
