Psalm 101 reminds us that living wisely requires more than good intentions—it requires guarding what we allow into our lives. David declares, “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes,” and goes on to explain that he intentionally distances himself from corrupt influences while surrounding himself with faithful people. He understood that our choices, habits, and relationships shape the direction of our lives. Even with a sincere desire to follow God, we can easily be pulled off course if we continually expose ourselves to influences that contradict His truth. Instead, we should fill our minds with what honors God and seek relationships with people who encourage us to grow in faith and wisdom. If you want to walk closely with the Lord, take an honest look at what you are allowing into your heart and who you are allowing to influence your life. Guard your heart well, because the direction of your life will often follow the influences you choose.
