Texas Scratch is made up of three born-and-bred Texas guitarists – Jim Suhler from Dallas, Buddy Whittington from Fort Worth and Vince Converse from Houston. This mighty threesome of big dog guitar slingers takes no prisoners when it comes to red-hot guitar performances, both live and in-studio.This trio of six-string guitar beasts are accompanied on the album by drummer Jeff Simon and bassist Nathaniel Peterson, both fine musicians in their own right. The band’s name derives from the term Texas scratch, which is a style of guitar picking (also known as the Carter Scratch) said to have originated by Mother Maybelle Carter back in 1927.Their combined efforts have resulted in a debut album consisting of – obviously - fiery, passionate guitar licks everywhere you turn, soaked in the blues and kicked in the ass by the blues-rock they all love to play. Some of the song titles on the album alone lets the listener know what they are in for – What the Devil Loves, Trip Hammer, Showdown and Louisiana Cock Fight – give a few clues as to what to expect musically. But the album is far from just a six-string shootout or shredding contest between top gun guitarists; the nine total songs on the album feature seven original songs written by a combination of Suhler, Whittington and Converse with killer arrangements, passionate vocals, tight ensemble playing, and clever lyrics. One can hear the mutual sense of love and joy for the music in the band’s playing and singing together. But, given the level of talent in this band, none of the musical goodness that flows from this album should come as any surprise.Suhler’s and Simon’s day jobs are longtime members of George Thorogood and the Destroyers…in fact, Simon is an original member of The Destroyers (he co-founded the band with Thorogood in 1973) and Suhler has been a Destroyer since 1999. Suhler is also a founding member of the band Monkey Beat since 1991.Whittington recorded and toured with blues legend John Mayall for 15 years before heading off to an acclaimed solo recording and touring career in 2008 that continues to this day. Converse made his bones with heavy blues-rock power trio Sunset Heights, touring with acts like Johnny Winter, Peter Green, Fats Domino, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. A devoted blues musician, he now kicks ass with his band, Vince Converse and Big Brother. And Nathaniel Peterson shone brightly as a member of Savoy Brown. For one reason or another through the years -- be it music industry woes, conflicting gigs, budget issues, and most recently, the pandemic -- this hot blues album never got its release. That didn't stop the stories from spreading throughout the music world about what a tremendous album this was.
We’re thrilled to be the label that finally releases this legendary album,” says Quarto Valley Records President & CEO Bruce Quarto. “Texas plays such an integral role in the history of blues music. So many great blues musicians hail from the Lonestar State - Freddie King, Lightnin’ Hopkins, T Bone Walker, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Stevie Rae Vaughn and Billy Gibbons -- just to name a few. It’s only fitting that these three stellar blues shredders, Jim, Buddy and Vince, while a part of that history in their own right, join the list as Texas Scratch!”

Anabel DFlux began her artistic journey at the age of ten, upon being gifted her first camera. This newfound passion quickly turned into a skilled endeavor, and by the age of fifteen, Anabel had opened her own photography service, DFlux Photography. By seventeen, her photography service became a full-time profession. By the age of nineteen, Anabel had received an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communications, and by the age of twenty-three, a Bachelor’s in Business Marketing with a focus on branding and content marketing. Although photography is a self-taught skill, during this time, Anabel had also collaborated with several well-known photographers, attended multiple workshops and panels, and received a few certifications- all in order to increase her knowledge and further her passion.
Anabel’s love for art and creation has always been an innate feeling, and she prides herself on having a natural sensitivity for composition, aesthetic, and various other aspects of visual art. This aids in her keen ability to understand what it takes to make a great photograph, not just a good one. The camera is as much a part of her as her arm, and became an extension of her body. Alongside this, Anabel’s life-long passion for animals and music brings forth her strongest work.
Simultaneously, Anabel’s teenage love for music manifested in her desire to photograph musicians and their various escapades. Having shot her very first musician portraits at the age of sixteen and her first concert the same year, her music photography career began rolling very quickly. Despite the industry’s hardships and tumultuous statistics, Anabel persevered in her desire to be a part of the music industry, albeit in a photographic sense. Since then, she has worked tirelessly with hundreds of bands, had her music photography published just as many times (in print and online), and received Senior Journalist positions at three music magazines, such as Outburn Magazine. She had previously worked for Substream Magazine, and had her work featured in Revolver Magazine, AP, Blabbermouth, and more. Anabel loves promoting all of the musicians that grace the front of her lens, and found a deep love for writing about their music. As of 2017, Anabel can officially say that her music work has reached an international level, with her photography being published in various music outlets within Finland, England, and Norway.
However, potentially the most unique and interesting twist in Anabel’s career is her partnership and work with exotic animals. Something that most definitely happened on a whim, sprinkled with a bit of luck, Anabel fell into the world of wolfdogs (commonly, but by scientific standards improperly, called “wolf hybrids”) which then led to her work with various species of foxes, dingoes, and tigers. Anabel fell deeply in love with these incredible animals and has a very strong admiration for the individuals whose entire lives are dedicated to the wellbeing and conservation of our natural world. The connection one feels when looking into the eyes of a wolf is unbelievable. Anabel DFlux has partnered with marvelous organizations to bring these creatures to photo shoots, and uses the photographs to debunk myths surrounding the animals, encourage the public to step up and protect their wild counterparts, and to raise funds for conservation. Contrary to popular belief, these are not wild animals, they are domestically bred to be a part of the respected ambassador program, and are specially trained and cared for to love the company of people.

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with members of the band Johnny Knows No One.. Johnny Rutherford who plays bass, Doug Johnson on Drums and Doug Zilmer on guitar.I asked them individually how they got into playing their instruments and why they keep playing music after all these years. We talk about how the band got started, bands that influenced them back in the day and some modern bands that they listen to as well. We talk about other legendary bands of the Ventura, California music scene as well as the iconic music house “Charlies by the Sea” and all the bands that came out of that club.
If you've been to one of their shows, you probably left there dripping in sweat from dancing through their entire set of great songs from past memories. This band brings smiles, happiness and good times wherever they play and you're sure to boogie down whenever they play. You can catch them playing this Wednesday November 22 the night before Thanksgiving Annual Party at Tony’s Pizzeria in Ventura at 6pm with my band the Stoneflys.
This is my 88th episode of this podcast and I feel so honored to be able to sit down and talk to gifted people that I normally would not get the time to get to know or talk to or even hear their amazing stories and I want to thank you guys for listening and making it possible to do these podcasts.
So sit back, drive, work, recreate or whatever you might be doing and enjoy this podcast with my friends from the band “Johnny Knows No One”.

Quarto Valley Records proudly announces the new album “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute to Cream.” The album takes us on a magical journey -- traveling the brief course of the iconic band’s musical life -- back to the raw, stripped-down magic of the creativity of Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, and Pete Brown. Passionately produced and mixed by Rob Cass, the new album will be released via Quarto Valley Records on November 3rd on vinyl, CD and digitally on all platforms.
Malcolm Bruce, Jack’s son, who, as a musician of note, was involved in the making of the album.
Formed in 1966, CREAM quickly became known for their explosive impromptu style – high-volume blues jamming, extended solos and flashy instrumental showmanship.
The project honors CREAM’s legacy with a 15-track tribute album and features Pete Brown and Ginger Baker plus an impressive roster of renowned musicians who knew, or were inspired by the iconic supergroup including Joe Bonamassa, Deborah Bonham, Malcolm Bruce, Peter Bullick, Nathan James, Bernie Marsden, Maggie Bell, Rob Cass, Clem Clempson, Paul Rodgers and Bobby Rush.
There were also invaluable musical contributions from Cheryl Alleyne, Winston Blissett, Moreno Buttinar, Abass Dodoo, John Donaldson, Pee Wee Ellis, Mo Foster, Neil Murray, Mo Nazam, Tony Remy, and Frank Tontoh.
The first single off the album, “Sunshine of Your Love,” was released on September 1 and features Ginger Baker on drums, Joe Bonamassa on vocals and guitar, Malcom Bruce on piano and the late Bernie Marsden on vocals and guitar, with Neil Murray on bass and Abass Dodoo on percussion.
This iconic song, co-written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown was included on Cream’s best-selling second album Disraeli Gears in November 1967 and became one of Cream’s fan favorites.
“Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute to Cream” was recorded at Sensible Music and the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Years in the making, Quarto Valley Records’ executive Mike Carden initially approached Pete Brown, his long-time colleague and friend, in 2017 about a different project and out of that meeting came the concept of doing a recording -- a retrospective of CREAM music -- which both Pete and Mike mutually agreed to. Pete had remained friends with Ginger Baker over the years and brought him on board. Following suit came Malcom Bruce (Jack’s son), and the gathering of the incredible talent on the album began to fall into place.
On recording this album, Malcom Bruce said, “I feel very much that in my own small way I’m carrying on a tradition that’s incredibly unique in the musical canon as it were.”

My guest today is legendary Ventura frontman Bobby Galyan from the band Lion I’s and his current band and musical project Lumination . If you were lucky enough to see this entertainer perform in the late eighties and through the nineties during the prolific ska and reggae resurgence, you often left the club, theater or venue soaked with sweat from dancing and grooving from his amazing positive energy put forth every single night.
My conversation with Bobby goes back to his childhood days, introduction to reggae and ska music, songwriting and performing, his cancer diagnosis and recovery, spirituality and gratefulness of life and living. I really enjoyed my conversation with this amazing human and friend who has a beautiful outlook on life

Nestor Barajas
My guest today is Nester Barajas who is a member of the S.W.A.T team of the Bakersfield Police Department. On this episode, we talk about how he has always wanted to be a cop since he was a kid and how it was on his first day on the job as a police officer. We talk about gangs, drugs and crime in Bakersfield as well as Nationally. We also talk about the current Catalytic Converter problem across America and mine being stolen at the Bakersfield mall at 10am. We also talk about his company Kern River Leather, that makes beautiful leather products and the importance and therapy of the outdoors and fly fishing and what that does for him. I’m stoked to have him on the podcast as most of us including myself have no clue the amount of danger that members of law enforcement put themselves in every single day and the amount of crime that goes on in our cities. I’m super thankful to him and the people in law enforcement for what they do every single day.
