gwot.rocks - God, the World, and Other Things!

James 5:13, "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray." Reading #20: pg. 287, 13 October, Thomas Jacombe, Puritan Sermons 1659-1689, II:585-586.

Prayer is essential to learn contentment; without it, considerations and godliness are not enough. The best way to be content in every state is to pray in every state.

Prayer furthers contentment by giving vent to the mind under trouble and by obtaining grace and strength from God that enables contentment. A prayer for contentment: "Lord, I am beside myself, and have a discontented heart

that is ready upon every adverse situation to complain against you. This is my burden: I cannot get the victory over my passion, I cannot bring myself to a calm, submissive frame. Blessed God, help me through the power of your grace to have a contented mind in me,. In Jesus Name I Pray, AMEN!"

This rework of Charle Spurgeon devotion for Evening, July 26, on Psalm 113:8 really encourages me. The stuff that pours forth in our nation is so outlandish and off the wall that at times you think it can't get any more crazy or weird...then something else happens that puts things further over the top. BUT - we must personally have a mind change To thrive in this warped society we must see things from the position from where we actually reside in the grand scheme of things. The famous author Watchman Nee wrote about positional Christian living. This podcast will live your spirit up today and encourage you in Christ! Enjoy!

1 Timothy 4:8, "Godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."

Reading #19: pg. 284, 10 October, Thomas Jacombe, Puritan Sermons 1659-1689, II: 580-582.

The second help to learn contentment is grace or godliness. Godliness and contentment go together. Godliness produces contentment by transforming the faculties of the soul, the will, our affections, and makes the conscience good.

When the conscience is sound, a man can bear anything.

Wow, every episode is a blast to produce, but this one is extra special. I really enjoyed how the Lord brought this about. This is taken from some sermon notes I wrote years ago. It is some words of exhortation and encouragement regarding how we interact with drugs and alcohol. This is a message for all of us, wether or not we choose to drink alcohol. Please pass this on to others in your life and sphere of influence. Everyone should hear this message.

Three overarching life principles that govern our lives: 1. Ownership-we are not our own, we have been bought with a price, 2. Self-Control- empowered by the Holy Spirit to right action and Holy living, 3. Personal Responsibility- for ourselves and other...the doctrine of the weaker brother.

Psalm 31:15, "My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!"

Reading #18: pg. 281, 7 October, Thomas Jacombe, Puritan Sermons 1659-1689, II:553-555.

Pausing to consider enhances the contentment of your soul...less murmuring, less unbridled passion, less discontent, AND instead a quiet spirit that sees the hand of the God of Heaven directing all our events here below. God's providence is carving out every condition, God will do his pleasure- there is no hindering of the almighty and sovereign acting of God! He does whatever he pleases (Eccles. 8:3), and works all things according to his will (Eph. I:11). It is best to submit to God what we cannot alter!

I ain't got no bone to pick, just sharing some facts, courtesy of the Center for Disease Control and the science of what alcohol does to the human body. I understand the concept that people say lead with emotion, that facts don't provoke real change. I disagree with this perspective IF God is resident in a person's life through the life transforming power of His Holy Spirit that comes to live in a person that has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. If God is resident inside a human being, THEN facts do matter, and God can interact with our human will and we can make a change as an act of our volition under the influence of HIS HOLY SPIRIT (pardon the pun...) If you don't consume alcohol, you know someone who does, so listen to this podcast either way and pass on this encouraging, straight shooting talk about the scientific truth about alcohol! Peace!

Reading #17: pg 280, 6 October, Thomas Jacombe, Puritan Sermons 1659-1689, II:546-549, 553.

Philippians 4:11, "I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content."

Learning the lesson of contentment is both supernatural and mysterious. This knowledge doesn't come from natural light; it must be infused by God, and taught by the Holy Spirit. There must be a divine light beamed into the soul,

a special grace from Christ, and the supernatural working of God's Spirit in the heart, or else there can be no true contentment. Listen to understand more about enjoying a contented soul.

Because of the unfailing promises of God we can know and ironclad resilience that empowers us to keep on keepin’ on! Beleaguered Israel learned to stand up against a proven bully called Sennacherib when they trusted in the Word of the Lord! May these words give your soul peace and resilience to walk this spiritual battlefield called earth with calm assurance and reassurance of the Lord's faithfulness to fight our battles.

Ephesians 1:11 "Having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will."

Things that appear random or loose acts of the creature are directed by God to a higher end than we can presently imagine. Providence is the great clock keeping time and order, not only hourly, but instantly, to his own honor.

God's providence and ways are mysterious. Dark providences are often the groundwork for some excellent work he is about to discover to the world. We see this at work in the lives of saints in the Old Testment such as Sarah, Jacob, and Joseph. All of God's providences are but his touch of the strings of this great instrument of the world. And all his works are excellent because they are the fruit of his wonderful counsel and unsearchable wisdom!

Proverbs 1:33, "But whoever listens to me will live securely and be undisturbed by the dread of danger."

What is the remnant?

We live in a world of turmoil and a powder keg of hate and violence. It is no wonder so many of us are dealing with severe depression and anxiety. We must exercise our God given will now and train our hearts and minds to LISTEN TO GOD NOW and we will live securely and be undisturbed by the dread of danger. As God exacts judgment form the hides of evil people, he absolutely will rescue those who know Jesus out of EVERY fiery trial. Remember, if you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, YOU are NOT the one in trouble. His wrath and punishment is coming to those who are haters of God and people. God sees, God know, God loves, and God WILL act. You can take that comforting truth to the bank! Listen to how it all works in this episode.
