Hail Satire! with Vic Shuttee

OCTOBER 5, 2018 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY, hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! As Steve Carell returns to the studio, there's a lot of correspondents fighting for screen time. First, Lauren Weedman stakes her claim to Steve's A Trend Indeed, then Corddry returns for an outstanding leotard centric Spider-Man piece, resulting in his own death and even our intern is done away with as we welcome Poodly Vagan to the team. But if Steve is simply here to talk about Vanilla Coke – how can this not be the beginning of a Total Failure Bistro? CHAPTER 6 – Where can the Team Guest go after being on top? Perhaps inward and to a more dramatic place, as the original music slides to the forefront earning Michael McKean an Oscar nomination for the best original song. It's the somber tales of Mitch and Mickey, former lovers who return to a gala in folk music's honor after years living separate lives. The Spinal Tap boys reunite for the first time exactly 20 years later as Guest, McKean and Shearer play it straight as the pickin' funsters The Folks Men. But as the company grows and grows, are certain favorites bound for deleted scenes (Parker Posey) or an out-and-out improvised quarantine (Fred Willard)? HEY WHA HAPPENED – turns out this is our last big screen mockumentary?! Is an era ending before our eyes? The Christopher Guest List is hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType). We talk about musician Jack Ingram and how he impacted the characters of the film, producing a feature on a shoe string budget and the Hometown Heroes Rally that could lead the filmmakers to meet a Duplass Brother! CHAPTER 5 – Back in the comfortable saddle of the mockumentary genre, Guest and Levy attempt to scale the Mountains of GUFFMAN once again with BEST IN SHOW. It's bigger and debatably better as longtime collaborator Michael McKean returns to a family populated by returning faces (Levy, Parker Posey, Catherine O'Hara, Fred Willard, Bob Balaban, Don Lake, Michael Hitchcock, Larry Miller) and first timers (John Michael Higgins, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Lynch, Jim Piddock)! Plus, plenty of charming pups, songs for terriers and an outrageous epilogue in what may be the best of Guest. Just don't forget your Busy Bee! SEPTEMBER 19, 2018 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY, hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! Coming off the lowest week in the history of the show thus far, it is NOT a good sign when explore the depths of a Mo Rocca travel segment, a return of the Penis Puppet and (in a first) a farmed-out 11 minute docu-series featurting NO COMEDY AND PLENTY OF PORN STARS in PROJECT REDLIGHT. It's gross and it ain't funny – sorry Shandu. When oh when will April provide!? CHAPTER 4 – Whether it was a cash grab or a savvy filmmaking challenge, Guest follows up the high highs of GUFFMAN with the stinking open pastures of ALMOST HEROES. With only his right hand man Levy journeying over to the land of mainstream 90s comedy with him, Guest is but a director for a Chris Farley + Matthew Perry vehicle parodying the expedition of Lewis and Clark to the Pacific Ocean. Will Guest's history with sketch comedy raise the level of the broad, potty humor of Farley in what turns out to be his final film role? Or is this simply a classic case of taking that Hollywood money and running to your next indie darling?
