Hail Satire! with Vic Shuttee

Conversation #186, recorded on October 18, 2021. Ritch Shydner has a long history in the stand-up comedy game, appearing on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and the early days of David Letterman. He's gone on to be a prolific comedy writer, working with Jeff Foxworthy, Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Roseanne and even Norm MacDonald. His return to stand-up was charted in the 2010 documentary I AM COMIC, and he helped compile great stories of the road in the essential comedy text I KILLED. Now he's putting his mind for comedy history to good use with his new one-man show A HISTORY OF STAND-UP COMEDY FROM THE CIVIL WAR TO TODAY: 160 Years of Standup in 90 Minutes. This one-of-a-kind crash course in comedy is a link to the past of the an art form that has never been popular and somehow not often understood. He's got shows at Yard Theatre on Melrose in LA on Oct 21 and 22, and will be booking more events across the country in late 2021. Hail Satire! is hosted and produced by Vic Shuttee. So it all comes down to this - in the middle of a red mirage, Vic and Chandler aim to complete a trilogy of the wonder: how does such a white whale of material becoming leader of the free world actually impact the type of comedy created in his wake. Does the buffet of defects end up making everyone sick. And now finally, with what appears to be the punchline of President Trump in rearview - where does a comedy world under Biden go. And will Trump return? As a treat for surviving the first term of a one-term president, here is the series finale of Trump v Comedy... until the reboot in 2024. Originally recorded on November 8th, 2020. Hail Satire! is hosted and produced by Vic Shuttee.

NOV 1, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY PODCAST, a rewatch hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! Somehow, someway, 2020 and 2004 collide in the most showstopping of ways – on Election Eve, the boys get to watch and discuss the first appearance of future President Donald Trump on Jon Stewart's couch. It's big league in every form of the word. Plus, the historic return of Daily Show all-timer Bob Dole, for his first appearance in four long years! OCT 31, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY PODCAST, a rewatch hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! As New Hampshire makes it clear that Kerry is in and Dean is out, the show finally gets a one-on-one with Howard Dean, and they spend the time with moldy gags from 2000. Never the less, Ed Helms gets the last laugh after spending a week in a van and Colbert successfully skewers the intel leaks from the Bush White House. And we gotta say it: a disproportionate amount of Boobah discussion this week. Sorry about that. Conversation #185, recorded on August 26, 2021. Ron James is a true Canadian comedy treasure, from his successful CBC series and his many hour long stand-up specials, including last year's "Live From My Living Room." Now during the pandemic, Ron has written his first very funny book "All Over The Map: Rambles and Ruminations from the Canadian Road" Plus, Ron teases his upcoming film that he's set to co-star in alongside living legend John Cleese! OCT 26, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY PODCAST, a rewatch hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! A high impact week as the tables turn on Howard Dean with with his shortcomings in Iowa, and the team makes a meal of, as Colbert so artfully puts it, ol' Howard Dean laying a turd. In retrospect, the famed "Dean Scream" seems more like entrapment! Plus, with the fall of Dean comes the coronation of Kerry, who ironically claims his success in (of all places) Waterloo! Thus a new era is upon us, Waterlosers! OCT 18, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY PODCAST, a rewatch hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! A little week in a big package, as the show officially debuts its Indecision 2004 logo and theme music (that's oddly familiar!) – and Jon gets a chance to interview Presidential candidates of present and future, including the first appearance by future maybe loser Senator Joe Biden! Plus, the strangest Jonny Mag yet and the worst late night instinct of the year – leaning into Michael Jackson coverage! OCT 17, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY PODCAST, a rewatch hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! In a yet untitled brand new era, Jon discusses hoagies with Oscar winners, unpacks the unfair treatment of a Vermont Democrat at a debate and a Tom Brokaw gives the show's first great interview of the year. Plus Colbert gets day drunk!
