Our inaugural episode is all about the mindset and skills that it takes to achieve whatever we personally define as success. In this episode we specifically focus on the mindset and skillset of setting effective and personally inspiring goals.
We discuss why goals are important and we also review two frameworks for setting more compelling goals in your personal and professional life.
Goal setting is important for four major reasons:
First, it allows you to mentally visit the future and have a conversation with the more successful you of tomorrow. The you of tomorrow will tell you exactly what it took to get there, and all you need to do is to take that plan back to today and operationalize it by way of measurable goals and tactical actions.
Secondarily, effective goals give you a reason to take action. If you set the right goal, it should inspire you to take action towards it daily. The Bible says it this way “Write the vision, make it plain so that whoever reads it will run with it”
Goals also give you a marker of success and achievement. They are sign posts on the road of life. How would you know if you are on track without measurable markers? Goals become the milestones on the markers testifying to your advancement.
Lastly, goals quantify the win and give you a sense of accomplishment and increased confidence when you achieve them. Winning and losing are habits...and goals can give you the small wins needed to turn winning into a habit.
