Episode 3, we go down the hair care path with a powerhouse. Leekeesha Duncan has played a significant role in my development and we have shared many spaces and hats over the years, which makes her ideal to explore the generational relay of hair care.
She was generous to open up her fond memory of her mom weekly routine approach to her and her sisters hair care, inclusive of bubbles and clips. She came into her awareness of her responsibility of caring for her hair in her teenage years and because of a lack of understanding she opted for texture alteration, a relaxer. In hindsight, she now stands of the premise that she is most beautiful in her natural hair.
Leekeesha is a light to behold, her essence is infectious and her hair has played a significant role in encapsulating her feminine energy + power. She wore dreadlocks for years and dealt with the negative stigma associated with that hair style. We touched on her experience exploring hair accessories in the professional space.
Leekeesha's daughter, Zahara, has also been in hair care sessions with me, she has absorbed so much of my guidance and is now actively caring from her hair from an informed space. The gift of hair care is something we pass on, it is assimilated whether intentional or not. Thankfully I held an integral space in the transfer of hair care wisdom between this mother and daughter.
