January 08, 2021 ep. 8 - Morning Tea: Whitewashing Mahjong, Cultural Appropriation Situation, & Don't Be Threatening
A happy Friday to you, everyone, Joey and hooray for the WEEKEND!!! A lot has happened this past week, students going back to school from winter break, having fun laying siege on the capitol, and whitewashing the game of mahjong. Joey is quite certain that you already know about the first two events (definitely that 2nd one), but have you heard about yet another case of cultural appropriation regarding the attempt to "refresh" the tile-based game with a long standing history dating back to the Qing dynasty in China, mahjong? If you haven't heard about this, you're in for a tasty and steaming hot cup of tea.
Today's Morning Tea episode is the hottest cup yet since Joey nearly burned his throat towards the end of the episode and began to sound quite raspy (seriously, he started to sound raspy). A Dallas-based company called The Mahjong Line, cofounded by three White American women, is accused of whitewashing the game mahjong, making this another case of cultural appropriation. While feeling very baffled by this, Joey did his homework to find out what happened and why. He also gives his hot takes on the situation itself, the company's apology letter, and the types of statements + comments made by those who're rightfully upset by this ignorant blunder. January 06, 2021 ep. 7 - Not Failing at New Year's Resolutions & Goals (again....)
It's the first Tuesday episode of 2021 and we are NOT off to a good start, or at least I hope we aren't. Many of us are happily setting up positive life changing new year's resolutions and are feeling the hype of 2021 (since we all know how 2020 went....). Though we're hyped for a new year and perhaps a new you, we mustn't get drunk off of the excitement and anticipation from embarking on this campaign towards working on yet another new year's resolution(s). It's all fun and games until later down the road where we begin to feel unmotivated, doubtful that you'd attain this resolution, and ultimately give up. Though Joey has not really done a new year's resolution before, he has definitely been there with other goals especially within mental health and fitness. However, the awkward halfie himself is making a change for the better this year by having three new year's resolutions. Want to find out what Joey's resolutions are? January 01, 2021 ep. 6 - Morning Tea: 2nd SAD Virtual "Dating" Event & What's Her F^cking Deal?
HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! It's 2021 where all of us are hoping some goodness and positivity comes our way, especially with the vaccine distribution. Nonetheless we're welcoming 2021 with open arms while kicking 2020 off a cliff (too harsh? maybe not). So, let's set this first day of the year right with some Morning Tea and boy oh boy does Joey have some tasty, hot tea brewed up for you. In this week's Morning Tea, Joey briefly talks about his 2nd attempt at attending a virtual "dating" event hosted by the Facebook group page, Subtle Asian Dating (aka SAD), but that's just the appetizer. While Joey also made a self-auction post on the SAD page in hopes of meeting new people and potentially a special someone, he does indeed meet someone "special". In fact, Joey thought that his conversation with this "special" someone was so "great", that he had to share it on today's episode. What happened at this 2nd virtual date? Who's this "special" someone? And why are we using so many "quotations"? Listen to today's episode to find out!

This is the last Tuesday episode of 2020 and Joey is not feeling it. Since he is recovering from a whimsical xmas marathon run, his energy levels are not matching the excitement for the new year filled with joy, resolutions, and vaccines. We're finally nearing the end of a horrid year as we all (hopefully) wrap up on this covid business and look forward towards a new year, with vaccines!!! Many of us have gone through various experiences, some good, bad, and even ugly, that may have changed our lives one way or another. If you're like Joey, you probably had an overall terrible year dealing with depression, loneliness, and even family trauma. However, there's a light at the end of the tunnel and you CAN work towards the better! Today's episode is where Joey will take a step back, nestle in his kinda comfortable office chair, and share with you all the experiences he went throughout the year, as well as how he was able to overcome his situation and obstacles. As we all nestle in our homes during the holidays, let's look back together and reflect on these experiences to gain insight and possibly skills that will help us enter into a brighter next year. WARNING! There is a momentary fast paced rambling about the costs of entry level triathlon training and racing gear! PSA: There will NOT be a break for this podcast.
