Halfway Docent

It's a SHORT!!! Sarah couldn't keep this one to herself. Here is a mini episode about Hatshepsut, a lady Pharaoh! We talk about some of her ambiguous sculptures she commissioned and how history had attempted to erase her.  Enjoy! This week we honor Black History Month (yes it is not March but we were sick last week!) with a look at the work of Jacob Lawrence. We talk briefly about his series of Toussaint L'overture. We mention his series on Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglass, and John Brown. We mainly talk about his series called the Migration series. Head over to our instagram @halfwaydocent to see some of the art and follow along. (sorry again it's late)

This week we go WAY back and  look at the prolific Jan van Eyck in an art heavy episode.  We will look at Man in a Red Turban (aka Waldo),  Portrait of Arnolfini (aka Vladimir Putin) and his masterpiece, the Ghent Altarpiece. And we will look for Waldo in all of them. Tune in to see if we find him.

This episode we look at the completely normal life of Salvador Dali, the second(?).  We talk about his work the Apparatus and Hand, the Persistence of Memory, and the Crucifixion. We also talk about his work not with paint with Un Chien Andalou, Mae West Lips sofa, Destino, and Spellbound. Don't forget to check out My Girl My Whiskey and Me. @halfwaydocent on Instagram and Twitter. Email [email protected].

Today we look at Pablo Picasso including his art work The Old Guitarist, Portrait of Gertrude Stein, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon Woman in White and Nude Standing by the Sea. Quick warning, at minute 54 we talk about the not great parts of Ole PP including some talk of sex, rape and suicide without going into detail. Hope you enjoy!
