In B.C., Premier John Horgan's NDP government is set to introduce roadside checks, in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19 and prevent people from taking part in activities that are not deemed necessary. These plans are very similar to those introduced last Friday in Ontario by Premier Doug Ford's conservative government. Ford received harsh criticism for those restrictions, notably from Ontario's NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, who referred to Ontario as a "police state." Can roadside checks be an effective method for preventing the spread of COVID-19? If they are, should we make use of them?
