  • Kwik Brain with Jim Kwik: 58: Burnout To Balance
Published on 25 Apr 2018. How do you go from burnout to balance? Most of us have days where we feel depleted, helpless, overloaded, where you don’t want to get out of bed, and much less pursue your dreams. But what if you’re feeling like this on most days? Then you might be suffering from a burnout. Our bodies and brains are equipped to handle stress in short bursts, but not over long extended periods of time. The impact of burnout is very real. Lack of motivation, decrease in confidence and performance, increased moodiness, negative thinking, all of which lower the quality of life you desire and deserve. But this burnout is a signal, not a sentence. So in this episode, I would like to talk about the signs of burnout AND the solutions you can apply to negate them. *Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program? • TED Talks Daily: What if we ended the injustice of bail? | Robin Steinberg
Published on 23 Nov 2018. On any given night, more than 450,000 people in the United States are locked up in jail simply because they don't have enough money to pay bail. The sums in question are often around $500: easy for some to pay, impossible for others. This has real human consequences -- people lose jobs, homes and lives, and it drives racial disparities in the legal system. Robin Steinberg has a bold idea to change this. In this powerful talk, she outlines the plan for The Bail Project -- an unprecedented national revolving bail fund to fight mass incarceration. (This ambitious idea is part of the Audacious Project, TED's initiative to inspire and fund global change.)

  • TED Talks Daily: Is the world getting better or worse? A look at the numbers | Steven Pinker
Published on 17 Nov 2018. Was 2017 really the "worst year ever," as some would have us believe? In his analysis of recent data on homicide, war, poverty, pollution and more, psychologist Steven Pinker finds that we're doing better now in every one of them when compared with 30 years ago. But progress isn't inevitable, and it doesn't mean everything gets better for everyone all the time, Pinker says. Instead, progress is problem-solving, and we should look at things like climate change and nuclear war as problems to be solved, not apocalypses in waiting. "We will never have a perfect world, and it would be dangerous to seek one," he says. "But there's no limit to the betterments we can attain if we continue to apply knowledge to enhance human flourishing."

Whillans is the author of the HBR article “Time for Happiness.”

  • So to Speak: The Free Speech Podcast: Ep. 24 How Daryl Davis, a black man, defeats the KKK w/ dialogue
Published on 09 Mar 2017. Daryl Davis, a 58-year-old black man, has a question: “How can you hate me if you don’t even know me?” For nearly three decades, Davis has been interviewing members of the Ku Klux Klan to find an answer to that question. However, in the course of his research, he found something he didn’t expect to find: friendship. You see, while Davis was actively learning about the Klan members, they were passively learning about him, seeing that their prejudices were unfounded and becoming his friend. Today, Davis has dozens of Klan robes at his home that were given to him by former Klan members who shed their racist beliefs after meeting him. On today’s episode of “So To Speak,” we travel to Maryland to meet Davis and explore how open dialogue and debate have shown him a path toward a tolerant, multicultural future. www.sotospeakpodcast.com Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/freespeechtalk Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/sotospeakpodcast Email us: [email protected] Call in a question: 215-315-0100
