In this episode I meet with Jackson, somewhere in the rural Midwest, and we discuss rural poverty and firearm ownership. Also, like always, many, many other issues like ethics in firearm training, militias, economic barriers, and systemic racism and white supremacy.
Join me for a new series of episodes that will be airing alongside our weekly conversations. They're shorter, and much more specific than our usual rants and tangents. This week, I'll explore the fundamental rules of firearm safety, and some basic etiquette while at a gun range.
Join myself and Korey Eakers of Grand Gents as we discuss firearm ownership in Black communities. Along the way, we explore white supremacy in America, police shootings, gang violence, toxic masculinity, and how Black individuals are depicted in the media, as well as many other elements of systemic racism in America. Spoiler: There's a lot of it.
During this conversation I sit down with Lance in Oregon and we discuss our own experiences growing up around firearms, pulling away from guns, and then finding our own paths back into firearm ownership. Along the way we discuss the differences in threats that are faced by marginalized folks compared to CIS white men, and the ethical dilemmas around purchasing and owning firearms as a progressive.
Content Warnings: descriptions of racial and police violence, descriptions of the physiological effects of gunshot wounds, descriptions of violent conflict.
