Mental Health Series Episode 6: Anna Lunday!

Let's dive into the topics of mental health in college, the emotionalist, and mental health during the sorority rush.  It is okay not to be okay and find healthy outlets to relieve stress.

Anna Lunday is a rising Junior at the University of Oklahoma studying Advertising with a minor in Communications Pre-Law. She plans to work in the fashion merchandising industry as a lawyer. Anna is the current Miss Oklahoma Collegiate America and will compete for the national title in July! She has also held various pageant titles in the Princess America system and National American Miss. She is the current Director of Recruitment Events Assistant for Pi Beta Phi Oklahoma Alpha. Anna uses her voice and reaches thousands of kids, teaching them how to handle their emotions and maintain healthy mental health space.   ShopEmotionalist.com also just launched her clothing line. Anna hopes to continue her work in empathy and emotions for years to come.

After growing up around sports and in a competitive environment, JRob found his calling in coaching people not just through their fitness journey's but through life. His purpose is forming lasting relationships with people and to pour life and wisdom into their every stage of life. JRob also does multiple speaking arrangements and loves motivational speaking!

Learn from health profession, Katie Qualls Fay, about the impact sleep makes on ones mental and physical health. Katie is full of knowledge and laughs as she covers this issue we see in college students and young adults.

Here is a little about Katie:
Katie is a seventh-generation Oklahoman who is truly Sooner born and Sooner bred. In the fall of 2012, she was the first member of her family to join Pi Beta Phi. During college she served in leadership roles both within Pi Phi and on Campus Activities Council. She graduated from OU in December 2015 with a degree in Health & Exercise Science and a minor in Spanish. She graduated with a Master’s of Science in Health Promotion in 2017. Her graduate research focused on sleep behavior in college students, and she’s been published in the Journal of Health Behavior Research and Translational Behavior Medicine. Katie absolutely loves her job on campus as a Health Promotion Coordinator, Pre-Health Professions professor for first year students, Personal Health instructor, and fitness instructor on campus. She believes that teaching young people how to live healthy lives now and for their future is both the most challenging and rewarding job in Oklahoma. She is a certified health education specialist and studying for her Master’s Certification exam this spring. Outside of work, Katie volunteers with Pi Beta Phi on the undergraduate scholarship committee and as a critical conversation facilitator where she travels to college campuses in the US to lead conversations about topics like sexual assault, alcohol skills, and mental health. She lives in Oklahoma City with her husband Evan and dog Duke.

Mental Health Series Episode 2: Sunny Day! Enjoy this episode talking all about mental health in public school systems from a teacher's point of view.  Sunny goes above and beyond when teaching and makes her own curriculum for her kids to be successful.

Sunny Day is a full-time English teacher, or as her students call her “Big Sister,” at Western Heights Public Schools teaching 5th grade. As a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's in communications, she fell into her teaching job and is so thankful for all the life lessons it has taught her along the way. She has been named “Teacher of the Year” and was recently featured in Education Focus Magazine. Sunny is the current Miss Norman and is striving to obtain the title of Miss Oklahoma America this summer. Her platform is “Social, Emotional, and Life Skills” education courses implementing real-life training that kids need to succeed after high school. She has partnered with car dealerships to give her students the skill of how to change a tire and emotional learning in the classroom. She is known as Oklahoma’s Ms. Frizzle and strives to make an impact everywhere she goes.

Mental Health Series Episode 1:  Miss Teen USA, Faron Medhi
Dive deep and get vulnerable with Faron about what it is like to be in the public eye constantly and the stress of national competitions have on mental health. 
More about Faron: Faron Medhi is the current Miss Teen USA. She has been competing from the age of 9 and is passionate about spreading self-worth and authenticity. A self-published author of an alphabet affirmations book, Faron has reached over 5,000 elementary students with her title. She is also a nationally signed model and enjoys hip-hop dancing and teaching in her free time. Faron will be attending KU in the fall as a pre-nursing major. She is the first Indian American to win the Miss Teen USA title and strives to embrace diversity and individuality while encouraging others to do the same. Let's get ready to Hang with Haleigh!
