  • Broadcast News (1987)

Happy New Episode! After a holiday recording hiatus, we're back and are discussing Polina's pick Broadcast News (1987). Polina loves the competence porn in this movie (you read that correctly). Diana was very pleased with this funny, familiar, but non-formulaic love triangle. Plus jumps at the chance to talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Take two rival television reporters: one handsome (William Hurt), one talented (Albert Brooks), both male. Add one Producer, female (Holly Hunter). Mix well, and watch the sparks fly. Directed by James L. Brooks and also stars Robert Prosky, Lois Chiles, Joan Cusack, and Jack Nicholson. (From IMDb.com)

Here is the Vulture article Polina mentioned: http://www.vulture.com/2017/12/broadcast-news-and-the-power-of-holly-hunter-as-jane-craig.html

  • Can't Hardly Wait (1998)

Borrowing liberally from the excellent podcast Your Fave Is Problematic, Diana rages through her pick Can't Hardly Wait (1998). Fortunately, Polina calms her down and gets to the root of movie: did you have a Preston? Were you a Preston? Did you wish you had a Preston?

School's out, and an entire graduating class -- from football stars and cool girls to complete nerds -- gathers at a wealthy classmate's home for a party. Staring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli and Seth Green.

  • Teen Wolf Too (1987)

We open the show discussing the results of our Twitter poll about the love triangle in The Hunger Games. Diana willfully the admits her pick Teen Wolf Too (1987) is a terrible movie, but had a nerdy girl she cheered on. (Spoiler alerts are irrelevant if you've seen Teen Wolf.) Replace Michael J. Fox with Jason Bateman, basketball with boxing, and downgrade the wolf make up effects and you get the idea. Also stars Kim Darby, John Astin, Estee Chandler, Stuart Fratkin, Mark Holton, Paul Sand, and James Hampton (as Uncle Howard).

  • When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Polina dives into (with spoilers) When Harry Met Sally (1989) and her own friendship turned marriage. Diana shares her irritation about Harry's premise that "Men and women can't be friends."

In 1977, college graduates Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) share a contentious car ride from Chicago to New York, during which they argue about whether men and women can ever truly be strictly platonic friends. Ten years later, Harry and Sally meet again at a bookstore, and in the company of their respective best friends, Jess (Bruno Kirby) and Marie (Carrie Fisher), attempt to stay friends without sex becoming an issue between them.
