  • Episode 85 | Travel + Treats | Happy Healthy Meals with Risa Auger

    Shortest episode ever!

While I’m here on vacation, I’m practicing my 5 treat meal “rules.”  I say that in quotes because I’m not big on adding real rules and accidentally making things harder than they need to be. That said, I KNOW that I feel better when I don’t over indulge. I KNOW that if I do, I risk having an upset tummy for the rest of the trip and pants that don’t fit when I get back. So. I hope these help ya when you travel and on your treat meal day.

  • Episode 82 | Quality Matters

Through some trial and error and a bit of research, I have found that making meals the HHM way changed the way I look at my plate. I hope it is helping you change the way you look at yours too. How do you make your meals the HHM way? For most of your meals you’re going to want to include one of each of these: Bright veggie + Green veggie + Lean protein + Complex carb + Healthy fat.  Beyond this, make sure that the items you choose are the highest quality that will fit into your budget. On this episode, you'll learn how to put this into practice daily on this week’s episode of Happy Healthy Meals. I talk about how each of the meals I planned have each of these items, my thoughts on food quality, and I answered a couple questions from the audience too.

  • Ep. 81 | Leftovers + Lunches | Happy Healthy Meals

It’s funny how our meals change over time with culture, with seasons, with new trends in life and well… just so many things. For instance, traditionally, people ate a small breakfast late in the morning after working in the fields (that they called lunch), then had a large meal at the end of the work day (called supper) and a smaller meal a little later, (called dinner).

This week’s podcast includes tips on how I up-cycle my leftovers, a little of this lunch info, and thoughts on my meal plan for the week.

  • Episode 80 | Complex Carbs | Happy Healthy Meals with Risa Auger

Scientifically, there are three parts to a carb: sugar, starch, and fiber. When people mention complex carbs, they are talking about when you eat a WHOLE food. When they mention a simple carb, it is referencing a processed option because it has already been broken down for you and ends up raising your blood sugar level faster—in some cases, too fast.

............ On this episode of #happyhealthymeals, I talk about giving yourself the carbs you need to be awesome. Because, yes. You need carbs — the right ones, in the right portions.   ............

Inspiration for my meals will be posted in the free FB group this week.  If you’re not there yet, you should be! Join here.

More important that when you break your fast is WHAT you break your fast with! On this Memorial Day episode, I chat about when you should be eating your breakfast, what to include and also about my meal plan for the week. There’s also a short burst from the kiddo.

My take? No matter what meal you are eating or when you are eating it, make sure it is the highest quality possible options for each of the pieces of a Happy Healthy Plate: a bright veggie, a green veggie, lean protein, complex carb and a healthy fat.

  • Episode 78 | Get. Some. Rest! | Happy Healthy Meals with Risa Auger

Last week I talked about my Happy Healthy Life plan: Move a little. Eat healthy. Rest. Be positive.

On this episode of Happy Healthy Meals, I talk about my meal plan for the week, a few daily relaxation ideas that can be 10 minutes or less, and I’ll tell you about my new tool that Is helping me get better sleep.

It is through REST that your body recovers, repairs and rebuilds itself. Your workouts tear your muscles, then at night, your body rebuilds those tears to make bigger, leaner muscles. (Which replaces fat! Yay!) It is through REST that your mind clears itself, makes sense of things and creates connections and space for amazing, new ideas and thoughts. It is through REST that your whole body gets ready to take on the next challenge.

Whatever,  however you decide it works for your life and your family situation,  take some time to relax together, and then a little by yourself, too.
