On today’s episode Family Therapist Joy Acaso discusses why meditation is good for the mind and body for many reasons. One it is a way to strengthen the connection between our left and right brain. It is also a way to release stress and toxins from our body. Finally when we are in a relaxed state we can access the feel good waves of our brain known as the alpha waves. These waves are good for memory, intellect, and cognition.
2. We don't have to be a yoga expert to be able to meditate. It is simply a relaxation of the body and a way to let go of thoughts without judgment.
3. Yesterday Michelle talked about setting your intentions for the day. You can incorporate that during your meditation. An easy deep breathing exercise is 5-5-5. As you become in tuned with your breath you can visualize how you want to feel that day. There's no limit to how long you want to do this. Your mind, body and spirit become synchronized.
4. Author Emily Fletcher says "we don't meditate to become good meditators. We meditate to become good at life." It's not about the details of how you do it or how long. But really giving yourself a chance to be self-compassionate at that moment. Not judging your thoughts and emotions. Looking for more peace during this Corona Virus? Email Joy at [email protected]
