Joe White is the nice guy of stand-up comedy. Ethiopian born, Perth raised, Joe has quickly developed a loyal following, both in Australia and around the world, due to his great habits of giving before receiving, and customising his comedy sets to his specific audience.
In this School of Hard Knock Knocks podcast episode, you’ll hear how Joe got started in comedy, how he’s built up his Instagram followers to over (twelve and a half thousand) 12.5 thousand, and the charities that he’s supported around the world.
And, if you’d like to give, then get along to one of Joe White’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) shows at the Afro Hub in North Carlton, titled ‘Ethiopian and Still Not Hungry Part 2‘, from March 28 to April 22.

This is not your usual School of Hard Knock Knocks podcast. This episode was recorded live at the Adelaide Podcast Festival, within the greater Adelaide Festival, and in front of a live audience. And keeping in theme, I kept things local by bringing in my old friend and Adelaide artist, Luke Lombe, and comedian and national treasure, Glynn Nicholas.
Few know that it was the Rundle Mall, at the balls, where Glynn’s busking career morphed, first into kids television, and then onto the Big Gig, followed by his very own program, the Glynn Nicholas Show. With help from my mate Luke, we follow Glynn’s trajectory, discuss the Adelaide Fringe, red heads, Pate Biscuit, creating a tribe of followers, and dressing as a woman.

Damian Callinan is one of Australia’s most versatile performers. Actor, writer and comedian all rolled into one.
As you’ll hear in this School of Hard Knock Knocks’ podcast Damian’s journey to comedy began as dabbling in theatre, then dying at the Espy, competing at Raw Comedy, before jumping into the movies – including his most recent comedy movie, The Movie.
Damian Callinan is a Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala and Road Show performer, and one of Australia’s funniest comedians, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy this episode.

Love comedy AND want to travel in time? Then you’ll love this episode, with Leon Huxtable, fellow Auscast Network podcaster, from ‘Yeah! G’day‘ – and budding comedian – as he puts himself and his humour on the line, by entering Raw Comedy
In this before and after interview, we talk to Leon about his preparation prior to his Melbourne-based heat, discuss tactics, and learn some history of Australia’s largest national comedy competition. Then, with the help of some special effect music, we shoot forward in time and find out if Leon Huxtable is going to be the next Zack Dyer – who happens to be last year’s winner.

Tegan Higginbotham started comedy when in high school, through the Class Clowns competition. Today, just shy of 30, Tegan has an impressive comedy resume, which includes writing columns, improv, sketch comedy, and stand-up comedy, at festivals right across Australia. This year also happens to be her 12th consecutive Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF).
And that’s only the half of it. In this School of Hard Knock Knocks podcast, Tegan discusses her TV and movie roles, particularly that Neighbours episode, how she’s successfully married sport and comedy for TV, and how she develops stand-up comedy shows. She also reminds all comedians that they need to be versatile to grow a strong comedy career.
