Richard Matt and David Sweat were discovered missing during a morning bed check at the maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York. The two had tunneled out, and exited through a steam pipe, and disappeared like farts in the wind. Instead of taking twenty years, it took merely ten-- and significant assistance from two staffers compromised by sex, money and complacency. A listener request.
Tony The Tiger said it best. Now as it turns out every frosted flake carries with it all the sins perpetrated by this country since it was founded. The Associated Press did a two year exposé on the reality of prison labor and how it figures largely into the American economy. You're made to feel guilty and a party to amoral oppression with only half the facts being presented. Feel how you want to feel, but here is the rest of the story.
Jake Joke: See Minus
Remember that French guy that couldn't stop breaking out of France's prisons? You loved it. Another experienced French guy gets away in a helicopter. But this time, he's gut art supplies, full creative liberties and some fruit. This one turns out a little differently though. France needs to start just wildly firing their guns at all helicopters.
So many dead. So many taken hostage. Seven prisons in the equatorial country have turned into fortified bases for organized crime, which is battling the legitimate government for control of the country. The shit started at Guayaquil when one of the most powerful narcotics bosses, Jose Adolfo Macias, aka "Fito", escaped. Riots in response erupted at five more prisons, sending security forces into terror. The feeble government called in the military to retake the prisons, but Ecuador still has a problem. What is the source of the mafia's money and power? It may surprise you to find out that it is you.
Curtis Allgier failed to escape. Tatted up head to toe this Aryan Bro was mister to both a wife and a mistress when he had a medical appointment. An MRI which would require all metal restraints to be removed. Just one correctional officer, Stephen Anderson, was tasked with keeping him in custody. A wiser administration would have sent two given the restraint situation, but it's not their life on the line. Allgier said he was gonna leave and go back out to the community which imprisoned him. But Stephen Anderson said no. Unfortunately his integrity cost him his life. Allgier, recaptured, blames the officer and the prison administration for Anderson's death. In like of the fake outrage about Robert Brooks, here is a reminder that GOOD MEN LIE IN THEIR GRAVES IN THE SILENCE OF THOSE THEY PROTECT.
Jake Joke: Easily Guessed

A long long time ago on a continent far away, the Metropolitan Remand Centre not from a specific place in Australia, a riot involving a thousand inmates exploded. The cause for the kerfuffle? Sweet, sweet cigarettes. If there is anything cooler than an Australian its a smoking one, and the Aussies inherently know this as do we all. Soon to be deprived of the soothing smoke that doctors everywhere agree is safe for your throat, not to mention the basic unit of monetary measurement inside the walls, it all went to hell. Jake and Jon break down why and whether the cost of is worth it, and whether or not inmates should be able to smoke. Here is a surprise, they actually don't agree.
Jake Joke: Oh Lord
In New Mexico, a new rehabilitation program is trying to teach the culinary arts as a marketable skill for inmates once they finally break out of jail. The inmates have access to knives in the kitchen to learn to butcher meat, and that seems like the first obvious problem. But is this a PR move by New Mexico DOC to merely 'look' proactive on solving recidivism rates, or will it work? And what about the private company which took the initiative? Are they just trying to keep their heads above water? Ultimately, can inmates be changed with institutional programming?
Jake Joke: D, hasn't aged well.
